At the heart of the production is the cunning Don Alfonso, portrayed with skilful nuance by Quirijn de Lang, who captures the essence of Don Alfonso’s manipulative intellect, guiding the unfolding drama with a sly grin and a twinkle in his eye.

His interactions with the young couples, Ferrando and Guglielmo, are particularly captivating, showcasing his ability to toy with their emotions while maintaining an air of sophistication.

He is dastardly and surreptitious.

Alexandra Lowe as Fiordiligi and Heather Lowe as Dorabella

Opposite Don Alfonso are Alexandra Lowe as Fiordiligi and Heather Lowe as Dorabella, whose performances shine with emotional depth and vocal prowess.

Alexandra Lowe’s portrayal of Fiordiligi is especially striking, navigating her character’s inner turmoil with grace and vulnerability.

Heather Lowe brings a playful charm to Dorabella, infusing the character with both naivety and resilience.

The chemistry between the characters is strong, particularly in scenes where misunderstandings and disguises lead to comedic chaos.

Tobias Hoheisel’s set and costume design plays a crucial role in enhancing the atmosphere of 18th-century Naples, transporting the audience to a world of lavish ballrooms and secret rendezvous.

The attention to detail in Hoheisel’s designs is commendable, capturing the essence of each character’s personality while adding visual flair to the production.

Tim Albery’s direction

Under Tim Albery’s direction, the ensemble cast delivers a performance that is both witty and heartfelt, seamlessly weaving together moments of humour and poignancy.

Mozart’s brilliant music and the universal themes of love, trust, and human fallibility make this a hugely enjoyable opera.

With its blend of humour, romance, and poignant reflection on the complexities of the human heart, Cosi Fan Tutte offers a timeless and captivating experience for audiences of all ages.

It reminds us that even amidst mischief and misunderstandings, love prevails.

Through the expert direction of Tim Albery, the impeccable performances of the cast, and the stunning set and costume design by Tobias Hoheisel, this production brings Mozart’s masterpiece to life.

It’s another big hitter from Opera North, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.
