Best of both? This neighbourhood offers the best of city living between Salford and Manchester

City centre living is now even better, thanks to the latest development by Get Living at New Maker Yards. Located by the canal basin on the old Salford-Manchester border, within Middlewood Locks, this year Get Living launched four new buildings, each centred around stunning podium gardens. 

Middlewood Locks is officially in Salford but you’re a stone’s throw away from Manchester city centre, meaning you get the best of both cities. 

Cynics might say, so what? Why should we care about more places to rent in Manchester? 

Hear me out. New Maker Yards is different, and I speak from experience. 

After years spent living in every corner of Manchester, I moved into the existing New Maker Yards development six months ago and have since spent much of that time waxing lyrical about how great it is living here. And no, I’m not being paid to say this. 

First off, these homes are stunning, inside and out. 

The flats are kitted out with the latest high-spec amenities, a state-of-the-art key fob system and furniture that manages to be both stylish and comfortable. 

The gardens are beautifully designed and work in a way that it’s exceptionally easy to meet neighbours and make new friends – you’re guaranteed much more of a close-knit community than many of the soulless tower blocks taking up space in the city centre. 

It’s the perfect area to live in, too. Away from the noise and congestion of the city centre, but close enough and with enough transport links to get anywhere in Manchester within minutes. 

The Regent Road industrial park is just around the corner, with plenty of shops and a huge supermarket, and Spinningfields is just a short walk away if you want to check out some of the city’s best bars and restaurants. 

Pets are allowed, even encouraged, and there’s a scenic canal-side walk seconds from your door, plus a club room to work in during the day and relax during the evening. Another co-working space is due to open in the new year, attached to a 92Degrees coffee shop for refuelling throughout the working day. 

The superb Seven Bro7hers beer house is just down the road, and the Get Living team are constantly coming up with events to get the residents out meeting each other. 

But most importantly, everything is geared towards the needs and desires of the most important people in the rental equation: the tenants. 

Not a single corner has been cut, and if anything does go wrong, the always-friendly on-site team is there in no time to fix it. 

These are just a handful of reasons why I’m in no rush to move out – and when I do, I’ve got my eye on buying one of the townhouses and mews houses that are being built here in the new year.
