There’s a wide range of coffee machines on the market, ranging from the simple cafetière to multi-functional commercial machines, and choosing what’s right for your business can be confusing. Here’s our quick guide to what’s out there.
Cafetière
These are glass, metal or china pots with a plunge handle, incorporating a filter to remove the coffee grounds. They’re one of the easiest and least expensive ways of brewing coffee, but they’re not normally used by businesses as they only produce small amounts at once. Cafetières are also inconsistent, as there’s no way of measuring the brewing time. They’re only suitable for use with ready-ground coffee.
Drip coffee machines
Slightly more practical in commercial settings are drip coffee machines, which brew the coffee through a filter and into a jug standing on a hot plate. However, they’re not an ideal solution as they still brew a relatively small quantity, and the coffee’s often kept standing on the hotplate for a while until it loses its freshness.
Espresso machines
These commercial machines are mostly used by catering businesses and coffee shops, and have all sorts of gauges and technology in place to make sure that the drinks they produce are fresh and consistent. The disadvantage, though, is that they need to be operated by a trained barista, making them unsuitable for most office businesses.
Bean-to-cup coffee machines
These machines are the perfect fit for an office environment, as they require little staff training or intervention, and can grind the coffee beans as well as brew and dispense the coffee. As the coffee’s ground freshly every time, each drink will be consistent and have a good a flavour as possible.
