This new hotel has shower beers, 24 hour hot dogs – and fried chicken for breakfast

A night in the DogHouse - what's it like to stay in Brewdog's new carbon negative craft beer hotel in Manchester?

You’d expect Manchester’s newest hotel, from BrewDog, to be heavily focused on beer. And you’d be right.

You get a free brew from one of their 30 taps of craft beer on arrival at the DogHouse.

And the 18 bedrooms themselves are a craft beer fan’s dream.

BrewDog launch carbon negative craft beer hotel

There’s a fully-loaded mini-bar in each room stocked with BrewDog’s headliner craft beers, seasonal brews and guest favourites, of course.

But how many hotels also offer in-shower beer fridges?

Shower beers

For an extra £25, you can arrive to a fully stocked shower beer fridge with 12 cans to enjoy while you shower, from lagers and pale ales to bigger, darker beers.

There’s even a dedicated beer holder in the shower, out of the splash zone, so you don’t need to worry about diluting your can. Or getting shampoo in it. Nobody asked for shambrew.

And if you fancy playing bartender, you can also add on five litres of BrewDog’s flagship beer, Punk IPA, on draught in your room to pour at will.

Burgers, wings – and tacos on the terrace

The downstairs ground-floor BrewDog Bar has 30 taps of craft beer alongside a menu of burgers, wings, salads and brunch.

Lovers of all things plant-based will be spoilt for choice as half the menu is vegan or vegetarian, and all of their headliner beer range is vegan, too, with 2-for-1 veggie and vegetarian mains every Monday.

There are even ‘hoppy’ meals to keep the kids happy – and head down on a Wednesday for all-you-can-eat wings for just a tenner.

Make sure you pop up to the roof terrace – destined to become a favourite hangout thanks to its cover, heating and free blankets if it gets chilly.

You’ll find a selection of tasty tacos, including the outrageously decadent dorados with a crisp fried monterey jack cheese taco shell filled with slow-cooked birria brisket, pico de gallo, fragrant fresh coriander, and a shimmering tomato and beef gravy to dip.

24-hour hot dogs via WhatsApp

Still hungry? How about £5 meat or vegan hot dogs delivered to your room 24 hours a day?

Not only that, you can order them via WhatsApp. Which is both brilliant, and highly dangerous, especially after a few beers.

We ordered one at 3am and it arrived within 15 minutes. It was good, too.

A full room service menu is available from 7am-10pm.

You can also take advantage of the WhatsApp number for anything else you might need during your stay – so much more modern than the old-school phoning down to reception – such as brunch, which you can choose to have in your room if you wish.

Anyone delivering fried chicken and waffles with sweet sticky maple syrup or spicy Korean bacon bao buns to us first thing in the morning gets a thumbs up from us.

In-room entertainment – and free bike hire

If you’re busy getting stuck into your bedroom beers, you’ll be glad to know there’s plenty to keep you entertained whilst you sip.

Rooms come with a bluetooth-compatible music system, with a guitar (yes, really) and a record player, as well as a vinyl selection from Piccadilly Records celebrating local Manchester artists.

Complimentary passes to a local gym are also available, for every DogHouse guest – and if you want to explore the area, take advantage of the free Brompton bike hire.

If you fancy learning as you drink, there’s a beer masterclass in the DogHouse onsite bar you can add on to your stay, which includes tastings and BrewDog merchandise.

A carbon negative, dog-friendly hotel

Sustainability is a key focus of the DogHouse, with initiatives such as the reward of free beer for reusing your room towels adding to the hotel’s sustainability-focused credentials.

As part of its overarching goal of carbon negativity, a living wall of 26,000 plants has been installed, echoing BrewDog’s mission to become the most sustainable drinks brand on the planet.

Earlier this year, BrewDog became a certified B Corp company – a status granted to businesses striving for a more inclusive and sustainable world.

And as you’d expect from the name, there’s dog-friendly access throughout, with dog beds, bowls and treats for overnight four-legged guests.

This is one DogHouse you’ll never mind being in.

Reservations can be made at brewdog.com/doghouse-manchester.
