Northern Quarter bar and restaurant The Pen and Pencil takes its name and inspiration from the famous mid-20th century bar on East 45th Street in New York’s ‘Steak Row’, which was popular with newspaper journalists and ad men – the original ‘Mad Men’.

Sitting on the corner of Hilton and Tariff Street, the bar and eatery is open seven days a week from 10am until late.

And to celebrate life starting to get back to normal, they’ve got some very special offers to help make the most of our days and nights out again.

50% off Mondays

To make Mondays bearable, or dare we say it, enjoyable, The Pen and Pencil are giving you 50% off food. (That’s 50% off the price, they won’t nick half your dinner.)

Whether you go for marinated flat iron steak, New Yorker chicken, Philadelphia steak ciabatta, a range of burgers, or some decadent sides – think cheeseburger spring rolls and homemade loaded nachos – you’re guaranteed great value.

You can enjoy 50% off food all day, every Monday, when you book in advance via their website. Tables must be booked 24 hours in advance, and it’s valid for up to six guests.

Pencils Down Quiz on Tuesdays

Ready to get quizzy with it? Starting at 7.30pm, The Pen and Pencil’s popular weekly quiz night consists of four rounds including film and TV, general knowledge, music and a special ‘wildcard’ round.

Each week the losing team will choose the wildcard round for the following week from a list of options.

It’s £1 entry, the winner takes all – and there’s also a round of the beers on offer for the best team name.

Happy Hour every weekday

Post-work drinks are about to get real happy, with special offers every weekday.

Expect new drinks deals every Monday to Friday from 5-7pm, including two for £12 cocktails, £3.50 bottles of beer, £16 bottles of Prosecco and £12 bottles of house wine.

Playful, creative cocktails include the likes of the fruity tropical Hilton Street Smash made with Chairman’s Reserve Rum, Koko Kanu, pineapple juice, lime, sugar, coconut cream, passion fruit, and flamed Wray & Nephew Rum; or a silky smooth Custard Tart made with Advokaat, Sipsmith Lemon Drizzle Gin, vanilla, milk and cream.

Return of the DJs

What better way to welcome back DJs than with an amazing night of disco tunes – with free entry, too?

Head to The Pen & pencil on Saturday 31st July to boogie the night away with James Greenwood, who makes up one quarter of Manchester DJ collective Supernature Disco.

James is not only a record collector and selector, but also label owner of newly founded Semi-Skimmed Edits – a vinyl only imprint pushing traditional style re-edits of rare, obscure or just forgotten disco and boogie.

Bottomless brunch

Taking its inspiration from Manhattan’s 1950s steakhouses, brunch at The Pen and Pencil is not only big, but also occasionally bottomless.

Grab your mates and get booked in on the last Saturday of every month for a special ‘bottomless brunch’ deal, with dishes including everything from the full P&P breakfast (with vegetarian and vegan options available) to steak and eggs, American pancakes, or spicy nduja potato hash.

Booking is essential – call 0161 660 3303 to book.

Private hire

Whether it’s a birthday party, business meeting, presentation, or hen do, The Pen and Pencil can help.

Their private room can host up to 70 guests or, for a bigger event, they also offer the full venue on select days, which accommodates up to 200 guests.

They have a number of drinks and food packages available, with bespoke packages to suit you and your event, no matter what the occasion.
