Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, falls on the 12th February, with celebrations lasting up to 16 days.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of care and thought is put into preparing for one of the most important occasions of the year, in particular the family meal.

There’s one place in Manchester where you can get everything you need to see in the Year of the Ox.

Hello Oriental, part of Chi Yip Group Limited established in 1980, have their own butchers and fishmongers with fresh daily deliveries, along with a bakery that produces traditional breads and pastries.

You can buy traditional Chinese New Year tasty snacks, such as fried sesame balls, crunchy dumplings and dough twists, to name a few.

They offer roast meats, too, which range from char siu (honey roast pork), half or whole roast duck, or even a whole suckling pig (local Manchester delivery only).

Hello Oriental also offers all your staple cupboard essentials, from cooking sauces and seasonings to noodles and rice, as well as a variety of teas and beverages.

There’s a fantastic wide range selection of frozen produce as well including dim sum, dumplings and bao buns, not forgetting the ice cream mochi that’s going crazy on all social platforms at the moment.

Though families will not be able to reunite as usual, food remains important with dishes created to give blessings for the forthcoming year.

You can go for a Chinese New Year Yee Sang kit, with everything you need to make the traditional ‘prosperity toss’ fish and salad dish.

No Chinese New Year celebration would be complete without any decorations, and Hello Oriental have everything you need for that.

There are hanging lion decorations, wall decorations, red lanterns, hand drums, sweet selection tray and red envelopes, which are filled with lucky money and given out during the festive period.

Last but not least, there’s the Chinese New Year Cake, a simple steamed cake made with glutinous rice flour, for a mochi-like chewy texture that is sweetened with brown sugar, as well as the very popular radish cake (savoury rice cake loaded with cured meat, white radish, Chinese mushrooms and dried shrimp) – a must-eat celebratory snack during this festive period.

You can easily get hold of everything you need to welcome the Lunar Year of the Ox from Hello Oriental, with just a few clicks, everything can be delivered to your door the next working day.
