Summer in style with a new seasonal afternoon tea at these top Manchester hotels

Afternoon tea is quite the institution here in Manchester.

Dainty finger sandwiches, sweet little cakes and fine tea blends aside, there’s something therapeutic about just taking the time to sit down and luxuriate in a spot of ‘me’ time.

And where better to settle in for an afternoon of luxury than top Manchester hotels Great John Street and King Street Townhouse, who have just released two brand new seasonal afternoon tea menus.

Prices start from just £24.50 for the traditional summer tea, which includes a mix of classic British sandwiches and sweet treats alongside lashings of English breakfast tea.

They say that tea cures all ills but, failing that, you can always upgrade to a fizz package for an additional £8.50.

Violet macarons, peach and white chocolate mousse, cucumber sandwiches (it is Wimbledon season, after all) and chunky fruit scones laden with jam and clotted cream all vie for attention, displayed lovingly on a three tier cake stand.

Further indulgences come in the form of a strawberries and cream cheesecake and a chocolate and salted caramel cake.

For those who fancy a tea that’s a little out of the box, why not opt for the gentleman’s selection?

Here, sweet treats are minimal, replaced instead by a hearty selection of local cheese, crackers and chutneys.

There are still chocolate brownies and cookies to tuck into, of course, but the tea overall has a more savoury tone with mini fish and chips and mini beef burgers taking centre stage.

There’s also a bacon and cheddar quiche, sweet potato fries, and skewers loaded with halloumi and cherry tomatoes – perfect for a spot of hearty indulgence.

The gentleman’s tea is priced at £25 a head, and comes with as much tea (or coffee) as is needed to fuel your afternoon together.

Of course, if you fancy something stronger, there’s always the option to upgrade and enjoy a few whiskies for another £5.

Treat yourself, you deserve it.
