Rust & Stone healthy eating café to open in Spinningfields

There’s no shortage of places to eat in Manchester and no shortage of places to eat dirty. Burgers, pizza, dogs, kebabs, preferably deep fried, smothered in bacon and cheese, with a donut on top. It looks good, it tastes good, but when it comes to doing you good, it’s not going to win any healthy eating awards.

There’s nothing wrong with dirty food. In fact, if loving dirty food is wrong we don’t want to be right.

But everything in moderation, as somebody once said.

When it comes to clean eating in Manchester, we’re not exactly spoilt for choice. You can count the number of places in the city centre on the fingers of one hand and still have a finger or two to spare. On The Eighth Day, Earth, Wahu and Cowherds spring to mind. And that’s about it. (Or have we missed any?) All serve healthy, wholesome food, but wouldn’t it be nice if there were more places where the more health conscious can eat and where the rest of us can give our bodies a break from the saturated fats?

So the news that a healthy eating open-air café and takeaway is opening soon in Spinningfields is definitely welcome.

Rust & Stone comes from the team behind The Lawn Club and describes itself as ‘Manchester’s first health conscious, lifestyle outdoor café venue’. With a menu developed by former Hilton head chef David Gale, it will offer healthy and wholesome dishes and drinks to eat in or take away including nutritious breakfasts, salads, soups, and freshly-made juices. Yoga classes and open-air seating will also be available. It will also be open in the evenings for organic drinks, English garden inspired cocktails and sharing foods.

“We want to bring something different to Spinningfields, giving diners healthy options for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” says James Wrigley from Fluid Bars, part of the team behind the new eaterie.

“By day, we will be creating a beautiful, inviting café bar environment that will provide our customers with temporary refuge from the hustle of the city centre. By night, we will transform into an elegant chill-out destination with organic cocktails, Moroccan style seating, live music and lanterns.”
