MHF is a 10-day celebration of Greater Manchester’s unique histories and heritage delivered to you by Manchester Histories, a charity whose aim is to celebrate and provide learning and education about the City region’s histories and heritage.

The festival takes place over 10 days with events held at a wide range of venues across Greater Manchester

The next MHF will take place from 21 – 30 March 2014 and we hope you get involved.

History runs throughout all of our lives and MHF aims to both celebrate the familiar and reveal the new and hidden histories from across Greater Manchester.

MHF provides the opportunity for everyone to learn, explore, discover, and interpret history through music, film, debate, talks by renowned historians, performance, walking tours and lots more.

Partnership is key to the success of MHF. Museums, galleries, academics, archives, local and family history societies, cultural organisations and community groups across Greater Manchester help to create the festival. They come together to deliver the activities and events, sharing their knowledge and experience.

The festival takes place over 10 days with events held at a wide range of venues across Greater Manchester. The Celebration Day is a one day event on the last Saturday of the festival that is traditionally held in Manchester Town Hall and includes exhibitions, talks, film screenings, games and lots more.

MHF is for people of all ages and historical experience from schoolchildren and college students to family history enthusiasts and museum curators.

New for 2012 was the first Community Histories Awards recognising successful partnerships exploring Greater Manchester histories between schools/community groups and an archive/gallery/library/museum/university.
