Manchester’s sandwich scene is about to get a whole lot tastier with the suprise return of Bada Bing, the beloved Sopranos-inspired sandwich shop that left a hoagie-shaped void in the city when it closed its doors back in 2022.
The much-missed deli, known for its enormous New York-Italian style hoagies, is making a comeback in a new location in the Northern Quarter, much to the delight of foodies across Greater Manchester.
A cult favourite makes Its return
Bada Bing first made waves during lockdown, quickly establishing itself as a go-to spot for Mancunians seeking a taste of New Jersey-style Italian sandwiches.
The brainchild of owners Sam Gormally and Meg Lingenfelter, Bada Bing began as a small project during furlough, but it didn’t take long for the shop to attract a loyal following.
Bada Bing returns to the Northern Quarter
Inspired by the hit TV show The Sopranos, Bada Bing’s menu features classic Italian deli meats like gabagool, mortadella, and Napoli salami, all layered with precision into soft, fresh hoagie rolls.
These giant sandwiches became an instant hit, with fans flocking to their locations at Ancoats General Store, Block 23, and B Lounge to get their hands on one of the iconic subs.
Despite its popularity, Bada Bing closed in February 2022 after just seven months in business, leaving fans heartbroken.
The closure left many wondering when, or if, they’d ever get to sink their teeth into another one of Bada Bing’s famous hoagies. But after a nearly two-year hiatus, the sandwich legends are officially making their return.
New location, same iconic sandwiches
The excitement started to build earlier this year when Bada Bing teased their comeback with a nostalgic video on Instagram, cleverly paying homage to The Sopranos’ famous opening credits.
Instead of cruising through the streets of New Jersey, the video took viewers on a drive through Manchester, passing by the sandwich shop’s previous locations before finally arriving at their new home on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter.
The shop’s new address, 125 Oldham Street, places it in the heart of one of Manchester’s trendiest neighbourhoods.
The reopening date has now been set for September 19th.
While the owners have kept many details under wraps, fans can expect the return of Bada Bing’s signature subs.
Among the most popular are The Bing, a massive hoagie loaded with gabagool, pistachio mortadella, salami, provolone cheese, tomato, lettuce, red onion, giardiniera, and mayo.
Another fan favourite is The Muffaletta, which features smoked ham, roast turkey, salami, provolone cheese, olive salad, and a punchy gochujang mayo. These hearty sandwiches are so large they’re almost a challenge to eat – but that’s all part of the fun.
Back with a bang
The countdown is on, and it won’t be long until Mancunians can once again get their hands on those legendary subs.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to Bada Bing, one thing’s for sure – this Sopranos-inspired sandwich shop is back, and it’s ready to reclaim its spot as one of Manchester’s most beloved foodie destinations.
Come September 19th, the hoagie drought will finally be over, and Bada Bing will be back with a bang.
