Great Manchester Run

With just under 10 days to go until this year’s Great Manchester Run, the countdown is on for Manchester’s much-loved running event.

This year’s half marathon distance has already sold out, and the 10k is expected to do the same very soon.

Last chance to sign up to the Great Manchester Run 2024

Paul Foster, Chief Executive for The Great Run Company, said: “Over 30k runners are signed up to take part in the world-famous Great Manchester 10k and half marathon event on Sunday, 26 May, with over 100,000 spectators expected to line the streets, roaring runners on from start to finish.

“Not only is the event broadcast live on BBC One to millions, but there’s an electric atmosphere from start to finish, with live bands, charity cheer points and tens of thousands of supporters cheering along the way.

“Club runners, fun runners and fundraisers share the same streets as the world’s elite athletes, and will be mixed with several famous faces with celebs like Gemma Atkinson, Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars running this year – we can’t wait to welcome everyone to the start line next Sunday, 26 May.”

Highlight of Manchester’s social calendar

With the sun shining brightly, the Great Manchester Run transforms into an even more extraordinary spectacle.

The weather is set fair for next Sunday, so bring lots of suncream!

The crowd bring an incredible energy to this event – and it’s the perfect occasion for spectators to line the streets, cheer on the runners, and soak in the festive atmosphere.

In true Mancunian style, it’s a party from start to finish, with a high-energy soundtrack, live music and entertainment zones at every turn.

Whether you’re there to support a loved one, enjoy the live music, or simply be part of the community spirit, get involved in the joy and excitement of this beloved event.

AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great Manchester Run

It’s not all about the adults, the Junior & Mini event returns to the Etihad on Saturday, 25 May, welcoming runners from 3-8 yrs, and 9-15 years of age.

The kids’ events offer high-energy fun from beginning to end, crazy costumes, lots of high fives and a very special finisher’s medal.  Our Mini runners (aged 3-8) take on a fun and frenzied 1.6km dash, whilst our Junior runners (aged 9-15) take on a 2.5km challenge.

Enter now, before it’s too late

The half marathon sold out a month ago and the 10k will sell out very soon with less than 500 places remaining – don’t miss out, this is your last chance
to be part of the magic this year Junior & Mini event on Saturday, 25 May (the day before) is also selling fast and expected to sell out.

What’s the Great Manchester run route?

The 10k and the half marathon routes begin in the same place: on Portland Street in the city centre.

All runners continue together until the half-marathon route branches off onto Mancunian Way and heads up to the Etihad Stadium and back.

Half-marathon runners rejoin the 10k route down Chester Road and Bridgewater Way towards Old Trafford.

At Salford Quays, all runners dash Coronation Street’s Rovers Return and the Imperial War Museum North, before heading towards the finish line at the bottom of Deansgate.
