The all-new Peugeot 3008 has plenty of style and substance, too

Peugeots have always looked the part. But does the new SUV put its money where its mouth is?

You know that saying about buses – you wait ages for one and then two or three turn up at the same time? Well, that’s sort of the situation here. After Nissan first opened up the market with the Qashqai, all of a sudden there’s a duo of new pretenders vying for the top spot for small SUVs.

Toyota’s C-HR went down a storm as a sporty looking but quiet family car.

Peugeot’s new 3008 should be a tough rival. It’s slightly more affordable, it has seductive looks and a proper posh interior. It has substance, too, with slightly more power and torque, which is probably why it’s also a bit mouthier.

Firstly, let’s talk about the beauty on the inside. Super plush looks. Every 3008 gets a 12” digital instrument cluster and an 8” colour touch-screen which are crisp and logically laid out. Sat-nav, a DAB radio, Bluetooth, a USB socket, Apple CarPlay and Mirrorlink all come as standard. A dazzling array of practical touches.

The 3008 comes with plenty of safety features, too. There’s enough head and leg room for a 6ft adult. Getting comfortable behind the wheel is easy, too, because it has generous steering wheel and seat adjustment, plus standard adjustable lumbar support.

Soft surfaces, classy materials and exquisite attention to detail combined with a solid build quality to create an environment that wouldn’t look out of place in a much more expensive SUV.

It has a deceptively huge boot too, with a height adjustable boot floor which lies flat when folded.

Steering is quick and precise and it has minimal body lean around corners. Never a bad thing, especially for your hot coffee in your cup holder.

The ride is soft and it floats along fabulously, soaking up undulations in the road – which comes in handy for cruising down Oxford Road.
