John started playing at the age of eight when he received his first guitar as a Christmas present.
The Height
And The Height has gone from strength to strength since they were formed in 2022.
The band have played gigs around Greater Manchester, including at Salford Lads Club – where his hero Johnny Marr posed with The Smiths for an iconic photograph famously used inside the album sleeve for ‘The Queen Is Dead’ in 1986.
The Height’s Debut Single
The Height was formed in the late summer of 2022 and released their official debut single ‘Nowhere’ in December 2022 following it up with the single release of ‘Go’ in February 2023.
Vinyl Revival
The EP is being printed and distributed by Vinyl Revival, the legendary record shop and Label in the Northern Quarter.
All proceeds from the sale of the EP are going to be donated to the hospital charity Christie Charity.

Since then it’s fair to say that things have been an absolute whirlwind for the band, with not only both singles receiving critical acclaim and praise from some pretty serious high-end radio and press.
The Johnny Marr Award
Not just this, but the band also caught the ear and eye of legendary The Smiths guitarist and co-songwriter Johnny Marr.
The band scooped the inaugural ‘Salford Foundation Trust Johnny Marr Award’ and met the great man who awarded them £1000 to use towards the band.
Despite being just 12 years old, John is no stranger to Manchester’s music scene and regularly can be witnessed busking in town, the videos of which have racked up thousands of views on the band’s social media channels.
Salford Lads Club
John has also taken to the stage and performed at the world-famous Salford Lads Club.
And now, The Height’s latest single ‘One to Another’, has been selected by Salford FC to accompany the launch of their new kit.
We spoke to John about the band’s new single, One to Another.
He said: “This is a real banger which we wrote being a teenager and not really fitting in with the fortnight playing, x-box addicted, Tiktok swiping culture.
“When you’re not into all that you can be a bit of an outsider but there’s a whole loads of kids just like us who love music and creating brilliant tunes.
“We’re delighted that Salford City has decided to choose this track to launch their new kit and we hope it becomes a bit of an anthem in Salford!”
The Height’s inspiration
Collectively inspired by the sounds of The Smiths, Korn and CHIC, individually the band have very different musical backgrounds with John being an Indie kid, Brandon a Metalhead, and Ted being influenced by drummers such as Ralph Rolle, but when all brought together something pretty special is created.
