With a staggering £250 million investment, this collaboration aims to breathe new life into Stockport town centre and create a vibrant, modern community for residents and visitors alike.

At the heart of this ambitious undertaking lies Stockport 8, a sprawling eight-acre site that will serve as the canvas for this remarkable metamorphosis.

The vision is to transform this space into a digitally enabled, green, and pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood, featuring an impressive array of over 1,200 new homes, alongside retail, leisure, and office spaces.

Stockport’s renaissance is part of the Town Centre West master plan, a comprehensive initiative encompassing a £1 billion investment program.

This grand endeavour is among the largest town centre transformations taking place across the United Kingdom, further solidifying Stockport’s position as a hub of innovation and progress.

The selection of The English Cities Fund as the ideal partner in this joint venture brings together an illustrious consortium comprising Legal & General, Homes England, and Muse.

United in their commitment to urban regeneration, these powerhouses will harness their collective expertise to reshape Stockport’s landscape and create extraordinary new spaces for the community.

An Ambitious Timeline: The magnitude of this project demands meticulous planning and execution.

A planning application for Stockport 8 is slated for submission in the summer of 2024, with the first phase targeted for completion by the summer of 2027.

While the timeline may seem extensive, this ambitious schedule ensures that every aspect of the development receives the attention it deserves, promising a truly transformative outcome.

Lord Kerslake, Chair of Stockport MDC, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, highlighting the tremendous potential that lies within Stockport.

The partnership with ECF signifies a shared vision aligned with the core values of community, sustainability, and innovation, all aimed at serving the needs of local residents.

The seamless integration of public and private sectors ensures that Stockport’s transformation aligns with the highest standards of collaboration and excellence.

The Town Centre West masterplan, with its bold vision and substantial investment, is projected to generate up to 4,000 new homes, 1 million square feet of employment space, and a plethora of local amenities over the next 15 years.

The economic impact is equally significant, injecting an additional £5.9 million in business rates and £117 million into the local economy annually.

This not only revitalizes the town centre but also lays the foundation for long-term growth and prosperity.

Stockport’s partnership with The English Cities Fund marks a pivotal moment in the town’s history.

Through a shared commitment to quality, innovation, and collaboration, this joint venture promises to redefine Stockport’s identity, creating a thriving, inclusive community where residents can live, work, and play.
