A £1.5m go-karting track is about to open in the disused basement of Manchester Arena which has largely remained empty since it was built in 1995.

The 550m state of the art TeamSport Karting race track will include 15 thrilling sharp bends, rapid ramps and fast straights with a fleet of all-new karts that that have a performance to satisfy even the most experienced racer.

All the karts at the track are electric, making them more environmentally friendly than the petrol alternatives. TeamSport are pioneers in the UK for electric karts, using them first at their central London track. They have several advantages over petrol powered rivals including low environmental impact, absence of fumes and superior performance.

The facilities also include impressive state of the art meeting rooms to support TeamSport’s corporate offering, private party rooms and Fuel – a fully-licensed bar – serving up a range of rustic pizzas and refreshing drinks, perfect for refuelling after some heart-racing laps around the track.

“Manchester is one of the most vibrant cities in the UK, so we are thrilled to launch our 19th track in the heart of it,” said Dominic Gaynor of TeamSport Karting. “We are looking forward to residents and visitors of the city, as well as local businesses, trying out our offering for themselves and experiencing the thrill of the our two level track.

“Whether it’s a stag or hen party, a family day out or a corporate away day, TeamSport caters for all needs and is the perfect choice for getting adrenaline pumping and hearts racing.

“With a range of affordable packages in a convenient and accessible location, we really do have something for everyone looking for the ultimate indoor go-karting experience – you never know, the next F1 Superstar could be from Manchester!”

In addition to bringing a new form of entertainment to the city centre, the track will create up to 38 jobs, a mix of both full and part-time roles, many of which may appeal to students and younger people.

The track opens on 8 November.
