It’s intu Trafford Centre’s 20th birthday on Monday 10th September, and to celebrate it will be hosting a day of fun-filled family and charity events.

The focus of the day will be local communities and the charities that support them, so all the events taking place on the day will be in aid of the centre’s fountain funds and raising money for them.

An attempt to break the world record for the biggest ever game of Musical Statues will take place in The Orient at 9am led by a local celebrity, with 1100 shoppers, staff, retailers and special guests taking part. For every person taking part, the centre will donate £1 to charity. To take part, click here to register.

Shoppers will get the chance to enjoy a delicious cake and a cup of tea at a tea party in The Orient hosted by one of the centre’s fountain funds, Trafford Domestic Abuse Support, while taking part in activities including a cake decorating competition.

And an army marching band from the ABF (The Soldiers Charity) will be in the centre performing while new recruits will be hosting some fun party themed events for shoppers to enjoy.

BBC Radio Manchester will be broadcasting live from the centre encouraging shoppers to come and share their memories while taking part in all the fun throughout the day. There will be special chats and features alongside guest sharing some of the most iconic and unusual memories from the last 20 years.

There will also be exclusive performances from local children who have taken part in the BBC hit show, The Voice Kids. Performers will include semi-finalist Jennifer King and Will.I.am team member Astrid. Performances will be happening in the main dome outside Selfridges throughout the day.

On Tuesday 11th September, the intu Trafford Centre team will be taking the birthday party on the road to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for local children who couldn’t make it to the celebrations the day before.

“We’re delighted that intu Trafford Centre will be hosting a special party at our Children’s Hospital,” said Sarah Naismith, head of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity. It will be a real treat for our patients. intu Trafford Centre has been a big supporter of our hospital over the years, so we are honoured to be a part of their birthday celebrations.”

“This year is such a very special year for us here in the centre and we wanted to create a blockbuster programme of events that would bring a smile to our shoppers faces while also giving something back to the local community,” said Alison Niven, intu Trafford Centre regional centre director.

“We can’t wait to celebrate with all our visitors and we hope everybody comes down to celebrate with us.”

And don’t forget, all the stores, cafes, restaurants and leisure attractions will be open as usual on the day with many hosting their own special birthday events.
