Steak and gin lovers rejoice. Award-winning Glasgow-based restaurant Alston Bar & Beef is to open its second site in the Corn Exchange later this year.

Already home to an eclectic mix of some of the very best restaurants in Manchester city centre, diners will be further spoilt for choice with Alston Bar & Beef promising to serve some of the best steak in town.

The bar and restaurant will serve the top 1% of Scotch beef, sourced from the Tweed Valley, as well as offering the finest selection of gins to accompany it.

Alston’s beef comes from accredited farms renowned for producing quality beef, full of flavour and tenderness. They use ‘clean beef’ – steers or heifers that have not yet calved from sustainable small batch farms that grass feed their animals.

None of the beef comes from dairy herds, which are not bred for their eating quality but can still be labelled as UK prime beef.

Expect to pay from £20 for a steak and a choice of around 70 gins.

“We are really looking forward to bringing Alston Bar & Beef to Manchester,” said general manager Riki Bennet. “Our bar and restaurant in Glasgow has been a real success and now we have the opportunity to grow our business south of the border which is particularly exciting.

“The Corn Exchange is the home to some fantastic operations and we will only enhance that further by building a quality steak and gin offering in a really unique environment that everyone can enjoy.”

Andre Coles from Corn Exchange owners Aviva Investors said: “Having transformed the much loved Corn Exchange into Manchester’s global food quarter we are delighted to announce the forthcoming opening of Alston Bar & Beef. This will offer Manchester the best of Scotland’s food and drink alongside restaurants from around the world; we cannae wait!”

Neither can we. But can they deliver on their promise to serve the best steak in town?  We’ll let you know. Watch this space.
