The new summer afternoon tea at the Lowry Hotel really hits the spot thanks to head pastry chef Ririn Briggs and her five-strong pastry and dessert team.

The River Restaurant at the Lowry Hotel has already won the British Tea Guild’s Award of Excellence for its afternoon tea. The new summer afternoon tea takes it to the next level.

Mango and passion fruit possets and blackberry eclairs are just two of the delights you can tuck enjoy on the new summer afternoon tea menu at the Lowry Hotel.

Served with or without champagne, it starts with a savoury selection of sandwiches and wraps. Enjoy luxurious fillings such as poached Scottish salmon with lemon mayonnaise and honey roast ham with Yorkshire tomato chutney.

These are followed by a selection of patisserie, as well as freshly baked scones, clotted cream and preserves washed down with a choice of over 30 teas.

The patiserrie is something you won’t forget in a hurry. Perfectly-assembled pieces of sweet bliss which look too good to eat including banoffee tart, hand crafted profiteroles, meringue-topped eclairs and classic British Battenberg. Definitely not your typical ‘tea and cake.’

Head pastry chef Ririn Biggs came to the Lowry Hotel recently with over 12 years experience preparing delicacies for diners at London’s top hotels and more than five years as head pastry chef at the Le Meridien on Piccadilly.

Ririn says: “I’m delighted to have joined The Lowry Hotel and am really enjoying life in Manchester. It’s a great opportunity to show hotel guests and diners what I can do in the kitchen.”

We think she has definitely succeeded. Try it yourself  weekdays from 2.15pm to 4pm, Saturdays from 12 noon till 4pm and Sundays from 3.15pm till 5pm, starting in July. It costs £22.50 per person or add champagne for £33.
