As we all know, 2020 is the year of preservation, with countless companies pushing their customers to switch to green eating and green living. However, there is still one room in the house that we haven’t tackled yet: the bathroom.

The bathroom is a place full of everyday products that can’t be recycled. Cotton buds, face wipes, deodorant cans, plastic toothbrushes, just to name a few. In fact, 264 million plastic toothbrushes are thrown away every year.

Well, one Manchester business is about to change that.

Family-owned business Zed Bees have introduced a monthly plastic-free subscription box, full to the brim of eco-friendly bathroom products that are all 100% recyclable.

Run by husband and wife, Lee and Zoe Shelton, Zed Bees launched their service in December last year to help people make their 2020 as green as can be – starting with the loo.

Each box is filled with natural, vegan and low waste bathroom essentials, which have all been sourced from across the UK to minimise their carbon footprint as much as possible. And the best bit? It can all be delivered directly to your door, every month.

“It’s a quick and simple way for everyone to immediately reduce the amount of plastic in their bathroom without requiring a lot of effort,” explains Lee.

“Sustainability shouldn’t be difficult and it certainly shouldn’t be about sacrificing quality, price or ease.”

To get you going, Zed Bees suggests ordering The Starter Box, an ideal intro into creating a sustainable loo. For £19, you can get your hands on a fruity Lemon & Aromatic Litsea Body Soap, a nourishing Coconut & Argan Shampoo Bar, minty fresh Toothpaste Tablets, a Bamboo Toothbrush, an organic Body Loofah and more.

From there, the monthly box costs just £10 a month, to top up your supply and maintain your greener lifestyle.

And you can even build your own, choosing from a range of plastic-free products that can be found on their website, making this the perfect treat for your mum on Mother’s Day. She deserves to spoiled, and at no extra cost to the environment

The Altrincham couple behind the business have two children, and admit that seeing them using sustainable products has dramatically improved their wellbeing.

“It’s even more rewarding to see how using eco-friendly products is becoming the norm for our children,” says Lee.

“It’s exciting to think that buying plastic-free will be ingrained in them from an early age as opposed to having to make conscious swaps like our generation.”

And you can do the same for your little ones, too.

A selection of small suppliers, from Wales to Bedfordshire, have been carefully chosen to fill the boxes, to provide subscribers with top quality bathroom products that are plastic-free and highly sustainable, so you can teach your young ones to be green from the start.

Zed Bees is committed to using as little waste as possible, so you can forget about the fancy packaging and all the rest when you order your box. They’re still pretty enough for Instagram, though, don’t you worry…

Does this all sound too good to be true? Well, you can visit Zed Bees up close and personal at Hatch’s Green Living Market, beginning on the 27th of this month. Register for your FREE tickets, and suss them out for yourself.
