Wholesome Junkies, a beloved vegan restaurant, has announced it will re-open in the Northern Quarter.
The hugely popular restaurant announced a shock closure earlier this year, despite the restaurant regularly being packed and booked out.
The business blamed ‘insurmountable costs’ and the cost-of-living crisis for their closure.

In a surprise announcement today, Wholesome Junkies said they are making a return to the city this September with a residency at Hinterland, Manchester’s only fully alcohol-free bar.
Known for their indulgent vegan comfort food, Wholesome Junkies quickly became a staple of Manchester’s food scene, celebrated for their mouthwatering cauliflower wings, loaded fries, and innovative plant-based burgers.
Their bold flavours and cheeky charm earned them a loyal following, from food market pop-ups to their appearances on *BBC’s Million Pound Menu*.
Despite regularly being packed with customers, earlier this year, Wholesome Junkies faced the heartbreaking decision to close their restaurant, a move that left the city’s vegan community saddened.
Chelsea Campbell, the owner of Wholesome Junkies, expressed her deep sadness in a heartfelt statement, stating that insurmountable costs were behind the painful decision to close their venue.
This September, they’re making a comeback with a new residency at Hinterland, bringing their signature menu back to the Northern Quarter alongside some new creative dishes!
A Partnership Rooted in Community and Connection
Hinterland, located in the basement of the Manchester Buddhist Centre, has been making waves as the Northern Quarter’s first alcohol-free bar.
As a community interest company, Hinterland is dedicated to shifting the local culture away from superficiality and individualism toward depth and community.
Grounded in values of community, imagination, and wisdom, which align perfectly with Wholesome Junkies’ ethos.
“We couldn’t be happier to welcome Wholesome Junkies into our space,” says Stephen Jeffreys, co-founder of Hinterland.
“Their grass-roots journey and commitment to bringing people together over incredible plant-based food really resonates with what we’re building at Hinterland.
This collaboration is about more than just great food—it’s about creating a space where people can connect, share, and feel inspired, all while enjoying the best vegan food Manchester has to offer, alongside some delicious alcohol-free drinks.”
What to expect at the pop-up
Starting on the 28th of September, Wholesome Junkies will be serving their fan-favourite dishes at Hinterland.
Expect all the classics—mouthwatering burgers, loaded fries, and more—alongside some new surprises exclusively crafted for this partnership.
Paired with a refreshing alcohol-free beer or a creative non-alcoholic cocktail, this is a match made in heaven. Salt and pepper cauliflower wings alongside a crisp pint of alcohol-free beer are bound to be a killer combo.
