Community groups, schools and charities are amongst the organisations being invited to apply for a share of £150,000 funding to help improve the welfare of residents in Trafford.

Launched this week, the Wellbeing Grants Programme is being funded by money donated by Trafford Council (TMBC) and raised through the Trafford Crisis Fund, which is managed by Trafford Housing Trust and TMBC.

It is open to organisations that can support vulnerable or disadvantaged people of all ages to live independently, enable residents to better manage their mental health and improve their physical health, as well as young people and groups that help to increase social interaction.

“The pandemic has had a significant negative impact on people’s physical and mental wellbeing, so it is vital that support is provided to help them recover and thrive as we move towards the removal of lockdown restrictions and something approaching normality,” said Larry Gold, Trafford Housing Trust.

“The Wellbeing Grants Programme is being supported by significant funding, and we would welcome applications from as many diverse groups as possible so that all Trafford residents can get the help and guidance they need.”

Cllr Graham Whitham, Trafford Council, said: “Local community groups have responded extremely well to the COVID 19 challenge but, clearly, it has been extremely challenging for many and has impacted people’s wellbeing both mentally and physically.

“Trafford Council is proud of the support it has given to communities throughout the pandemic and is delighted to continue this support through the Wellbeing Grants Programme.

“I would encourage as many eligible groups as possible to apply for a share of the £150,000 funding.”

A wide range of groups can apply for grants of between £2,000 – £5,000 by visiting traffordhousingtrust.co.uk, and applications are open until 23rd July. Trafford Housing Trust is happy to help groups prepare their grant applications – for more information email [email protected] or call 0161 968 0151.
