The Y Club: More Than Just a Gym for 170 Years

Billed as the city centre’s largest and friendliest health club, Y Club try to be everything to everyone. Situated in the heart of Castlefield, the club is a down-to-earth, non-intimidating environment, where you can fit in whether you’re a part-timer, a fitness freak and anything in between.

The club is perfect for families. It’s not just a gym – it’s a social hub. Formerly the Manchester YMCA, the club has offered a real sense of belonging to its lifetime members for over 170 years. Situating itself at the Castlefield Basin for nearly 25 years, Ken (pictured above) has been a member since the beginning and is showing no signs of letting up.
Unlike Ken, however, the gym is looking a bit tired and dated. Construction work and a refurbishment is well underway to expand and improve popular areas such as the cardio room and free-weights area as well as introducing a new functional training room and a ladies-only sauna.

Fully qualified staff offer encouragement alongside challenging and fun exercise programmes suitable for all levels of fitness. With the range of activities and classes, available at no extra cost membership, you will not find better value for money.
As a Y Club member you can choose from over 70 of Manchester’s most innovative exercise classes each week including zumba®, bodypump®, yoga, circuit training, badminton and much more. There’s even an indoor running track and a basketball court (the only one in the city).
There are classes, like the metafit class, that are cutting edge but at the same time there are classes, like some of the members, that have been around forever.
To help you fit these activities into your busy schedule, classes are timed to last from 30 minutes up to 90 minutes and are spread throughout opening times.
Free membership until 1st January
Terms and conditions apply. No joining fee however a £15 administration fee will be payable when you join. To take advantage of this offer, join by 30th November 2014. Initial term starts 1st January 2015. You must take out a minimum 12 month membership, starting on 1st January 2015. Certain membership packages will be excluded from this offer, please ask the club for further details.
