The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal: bringing hope to Manchester families in need

Join The Salvation Army's mission to spread joy this holiday season by contributing new toys to the Christmas Present Appeal, making a meaningful impact on struggling families across Greater Manchester.

In an effort to support struggling families during the festive season, The Salvation Army across Greater Manchester is issuing a heartfelt call to the community to contribute new toys to its Christmas Present Appeal.

Donate Toys and Gifts for Families in Crisis

As part of its yearly tradition, The Salvation Army is urging individuals to donate new toys and gifts, specifically for children whose families are grappling with challenges such as putting food on the table, heating their homes, or paying bills.

Fear of Increased Demand for Support

Last year, The Salvation Army’s churches distributed gifts to over 1,000 children across Greater Manchester.

However, the organisation is expressing concerns about an escalating need for support this year amidst the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

Major David Taylor’s Call to Alleviate Christmas Pressures

Major David Taylor, Salvation Army Divisional Commander for the North West, emphasises the impact of providing a gift to a child, stating, “Helping a parent provide a gift for their child is more than just financial support; it brings the joy of Christmas into their home.”

Embracing the Spirit of Christmas

The Salvation Army views its present appeal as an opportunity for communities to embrace the true spirit of Christmas by giving to families and individuals facing dire circumstances.

Major Taylor acknowledges the public’s generosity over the years and hopes this year’s appeal will bring comfort and joy to those struggling the most.

Donation Locations Across Greater Manchester

With churches and community centres scattered across Greater Manchester, including locations in Oldham, Sale, Bolton, Wigan, Swinton, and Stockport, The Salvation Army is actively collecting donations of new and unwrapped toys until December.

Streamlined Distribution Process to Benefit Local Families

Following the collection period, The Salvation Army plans to efficiently sort and distribute donated gifts to children and families through collaborations with local groups, schools, and social services.
