Stockport Gin, run by husband and wife Paul and Cheryl Sharrocks, have opened the doors to their new premises in Stockport town centre.

The gin shop and event space was officially opened by the Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Adrian Nottingham, at an opening event earlier this month.

At the event, the Mayor of Stockport congratulated the couple for opening the new distillery and thanked them for their bravery in opening during a pandemic.

He also thanked them, on behalf of the people of Stockport, for being part of the growth of the town centre and wished them the best of success for the future.

Launched in March 2019, the couple have been distilling from the garage at their home in Compstall, but in February 2021 announced that they were relocating to a new location in the town centre.

The new premises, at 19B St Petersgate, is home to their distillery, but also has a gin shop and a large event space, where people can visit and buy the range of gins, as well as other local products, and guest gins from further afield.

“We are delighted to finally open our doors to the public after a few months of hard work to get the distillery and gin shop exactly how we want it,” said Cheryl.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming people in, and being able to show people exactly what we do and how we do it.

“The new premises, we hope, will give people another reason to visit Stockport, not just to see us but also all the other wonderful places in and around the town centre.

“The amount of independent shops, bars and restaurants on offer now is incredible and we hope we can be a small part of that.”

Paul said they are initially opening the shop for people to come in and view the space, and to buy their gins and other products.

“Then, once we know what the rules and restrictions are after the 21st July, we will be releasing tickets for sale so that people can come and take part in taster nights, distillery tours and other events that we have planned,” said Paul.

“People have been asking us for weeks when we will be open and when they can book onto a tour, so we can’t wait to be able to welcome people in and show people around!

“We hope what we have to offer will bring something new to the town centre and be somewhere that draws people in from further afield to see not only what we do but also what Stockport is all about.”

The gin shop is located at 19B St Petersgate, Stockport, SK1 1EB and will be open Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm, with details of tours and events to be announced soon.
