The family of six-month-old Sophia Kelemen, from Leigh, Manchester, is grappling with an unimaginable tragedy after her life was cut short during a family holiday to Wales.

On January 2nd, Sophia was involved in a collision in a multi-storey car park in Tenby, Pembrokeshire.

Despite being airlifted to a hospital in Cardiff and undergoing emergency care for severe injuries, Sophia tragically passed away the following day.

R.I.P Sophia Kelemen

Sophia’s aunt, Adriana Kelemen, has launched a fundraiser to help cover the costs of her funeral and repatriation.

Writing on the fundraising page, Adriana shared the family’s heartbreak:

“Never in a million years would I have thought I would have to write a post like this. My name is Adriana, the auntie of my beloved niece Sophia.

“A seemingly ordinary day turned into our family’s worst nightmare. The baby was airlifted to the hospital with a broken pelvis and a brain bleed and was ultimately diagnosed with brain damage due to the impact.

Despite the efforts of the doctors, Sophia could not cope with the impact, the surgery, anaesthesia, the brain bleed and all the injuries were too much for her fragile heart, which eventually gave out.

“I hope to ease a very small part of my brother and sister in law’s hurt and suffering and raise part of the necessary funds required for the funeral costs and repatriation, as this was an event no one could have ever expected or planned for, especially right after the Christmas holidays.”

Sophia had recently celebrated her first Christmas with her parents, Alex and Betty, and her five-year-old brother.

“the cutest and most adorable girl”

Her family described her as “smiley and bubbly,” “playful and energetic,” and “the cutest and most adorable girl.”

She brought so much joy to those around her in her short life.

The fundraiser aims to ease the financial burden of laying Sophia to rest and to help her father, Alex, fulfill his wish of bringing his little girl back to Romania for burial.

The Kelemen family, originally from Romania, hopes this act of love will bring a measure of peace in the face of their devastating loss.

The tragic incident is under investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police, and a man has been charged in connection with the collision. The family is being supported by specially trained officers as they navigate this unimaginable grief.

For those moved by Sophia’s story and who wish to support the family during this time, contributions can be made through the fundraising page link below.

Your generosity will not only help cover the costs of Sophia’s funeral but also serve as a heartfelt reminder that her family is not alone in their sorrow.

As Sophia’s aunt so poignantly wrote, “Our beloved baby girl’s fragile heart may have stopped beating, but the love she gave us will live on forever.”
