Local restaurant owner Devang Gohil has set an example to fellow restaurateurs by spending his birthday cooking meals for Manchester’s frontline NHS heroes.
Devang, who is co-founder and owner of the award-winning Ziyal Asian grills and Gatley vegan restaurant Bhaji Pala, had been itching to put a team together since the pandemic first struck but his idea had not taken off because of health and safety restrictions and his best intentions to protect his staff.
But with the help of some of his staff, he finally managed to cook and deliver 100 nutritious vegetarian meals consisting of spiced chickpeas, paneer and fenugreek and jeera rice to staff at Saint Mary’s Hospital while maintaining health and safety regulations – on his birthday of all days.
“COVID19 has made me learn a lot,” said Devang. “The whole experience has been so amazing. I’ll do something like this on every birthday from now on”.
Now he wants to inspire other restaurants to do the same during these trying times.
“I’m here to connect with hoteliers, restaurateurs, chefs, and restaurant managers – anyone and everyone around the world in the hospitality industry. See how we can help each other and make it easier for others.”
