Manchester’s hospitality scene has been through a tough time over the last few months – so it’s always good news to hear about new venues opening up in the city. And this particular new opening, launching next month, is especially indulgent.
Napoleons Casino & Restaurant is opening on Portland Street, next to the equally stylish new Hotel Brooklyn – and no expense has been spared.
The A&S Leisure Group has injected £8m into the 1,450m2 venue which boasts show-stopping interior design thanks to architect Chapman Taylor’s Castlefield office, combining high-end facilities and luxurious detailing throughout.
The project has been years in the making and marks a return to Manchester for Dave Allen, A&S Leisure Chairman, who, as a younger man, regularly performed in the city with his band at the Ritz Ballroom on Oxford St before moving on to the business of nightclubs and casinos years later.
As well as state-of-the-art gaming, the 24-hour venue also has a stunning restaurant which includes a luxurious private dining room, and a striking cocktail bar which is sure to be a focal point.
The bar is open from 12noon until 5.30am and a selection of cocktails will be given a local feel thanks to Faith & Sons gin, made in nearby Salford.
When it comes to food, the restaurant, which opens daily from 5.30pm until 11pm, will offer a Dine in Style package of three courses from the dinner menu and a free drink* for £22 Sunday to Thursday and £28 Friday and Saturday.
You can start with the likes of kedgeree fishcake with a softly poached egg, korma hollandaise and crisp poppadom, followed by rump of lamb with dauphinoise potato pureé and creamed peas with pancetta, or slow roasted belly pork with pulled shoulder hash cake, honey glazed chantenay carrots, crackling and cider sauce.
Lighter options include grilled fillet of sea bass with tempura king prawns, warm Thai salad, toasted cashews, and lime and coriander dressing, while the grill provides a selection of steaks with hand cut chips.
Desserts range from sticky toffee and ginger pudding with caramel sauce and salted peanut brittle to a fabulously retro black forest cheesecake, brought bang up to date with white chocolate ice cream and kirsch scented crème anglaise.
Bookings are open now for the restaurant.
And if you’re peckish, there’s also a bar and late night menu, served until 3am.
You can choose from small plates – Moroccan style lamb koftas with mint yoghurt, perhaps, or tempura king prawns – or go for a full-on pale ale battered fish and chips or even their signature full house burger
There are also pizzas and a selection of burgers to satisfy late-night cravings, including vegetarian and vegan options – as well as lamb chops, salmon, chicken or steak straight off the grill.
Autumn evenings are suddenly looking much more entertaining.
