As events and live concerts are being cancelled across the country, one Manchester music venue has found a way to lift our spirits amidst new social distancing policies being implemented due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Following new government advice for people to stay at home and avoid bars, pubs and venues, popular rock bar Jimmy’s have today announced they will be live-streaming a series of ‘isolation’ gigs through their Instagram channel.

Founders George and Jimmy Craig of One Night Only fame have called on their fellow musicians to offer to perform as part of the series which they hope to make an ongoing thing.

First up to play tonight is Matt Thomson from British rock and roll band The Amazons, who’ll be singing some songs from his bedroom.

The performance will be broadcast using Instagram TV from the venue’s channel tonight at 9pm.

The popular venue revealed the news to fans via their social media channels this afternoon, stating: “We want music be a leading light in these dark times.”

“With the issues around show cancellations throughout the music industry Jimmy’s has put out a rallying call to fellow musicians to bring some positivity to music fans around the world.”

“Tonight is the first of what we hope will be a whole series of isolation gigs broadcasted via the jimmy’s Instagram channel every night at 9pm.

“Matt Thomson from The Amazons is a legend and we are so grateful to him for getting involved with this.”

Jimmy’s is also encouraging musicians from far and wide to reach out and help support the initiative, hoping to continue streaming gigs nightly from 9pm for the forseeable future.

They are looking for more people to perform on their channel “to keep spirits high and keep music alive.”
