Their incredible selection of food has been commended as “exceptional” by Enjoy Travel and Big 7 Travel, both global travel experts.
Venues were evaluated based on various factors, such as the variety of cuisines offered, vendor selection, the presence of unique and special events, and the overall ambiance.
Mackie Mayor is located in a historic Grade II-listed building that was once a part of Smithfield Market.
Following a period of neglect in the 1970s, the building was restored and reopened as a food hall in 2017.
And since then, it has gone from strength to strength.
At present, Mackie Mayor accommodates an array of divine food vendors like Pico’s, who specializes in Mexican cuisine, New Wave Ramen, Honest Crust sourdough pizza, Tender Cow, Chilli B Thai, and Mumma’s Fried Chicken.
Furthermore, the venue also comprises Reserve wine shop, Jack in the Box – an award-winning beer and cider shop by BlackJack Brewtap, and Eagle Street Coffee – a recent addition after the departure of Mackie’s long-standing coffee trader, Atkinsons Coffee, which closed its cafe in January.
There’s also space for 500 people in the beautiful venue.
Including Mackie Mayor, Three Manchester Food Halls got a shout-out in the top ten list.
Altrincham Market House and Society secured the fourth and eighth positions, respectively, and Eataly in London claimed the second spot.
Elsewhere in the North West, Liverpool’s Baltic Market ranked at number five, with Sheffield’s Cutlery Works landed in third place.
The website said: “Housed in an 1858 Grade 2 listed building in the Northern Quarter, Mackie Mayor is crammed full of top-notch food and drink vendors.
“And, with space for at least 500 people, you’re guaranteed to find a seat, even though it is one of Manchester’s most popular spots.
“Honest Crust serves exceptional seasonal sourdough pizzas, FIN Fish Bar is beloved for its sustainable day-boat fish cooked whole over a chargrill and Baohouse serves up the steamiest little Taiawese buns.
“At Tender Cow, punters can tuck into lesser-known cuts of beef from some of the best producers and farms in Britain.
“Groups of 10 or more people can book a table too.”
