Marble Brewery is collaborating with a local social enterprise to give something back to the local community and support local sustainability projects.

It has created a beer made with fruit rescued from landfill by local recycling champions EMERGE.

The grapefruit and clementine Berliner Weisse is called The Three Rs as a nod to EMERGE’s environmental ethos – reduce, reuse and recycle.

Marble will donate 25p from each beer sold to support EMERGE projects around Manchester.

EMERGE – it stands for East Manchester Environment & Resources Group – has championed sustainability and waste minimisation in Greater Manchester for 20 years.

Its three brands – Emerge Recycling, FareShare Greater Manchester and Touch Wood – are centred on a core goal to reduce, reuse and recycle. Sustainable resource and waste management are at the heart of everything they do. That includes rescuing the grapefruit and clementines that have been used to make this beer – fruit which would have otherwise been destined for the bin.

Its projects actively contribute to the local community and the development and creation of real, sustainable jobs, work and learning experiences whilst also reducing waste and improving sustainability.

Micro-brewery Marble specialises in innovative cask, keg, can and bottled beer, as well as revitalising historic British styles.

“When we learnt of the fantastic work that the team at EMERGE are doing right across our local area, we committed to help in whatever way we could,” said brewery owner Jan Rogers.

“Hopefully this beer, and the donations, can go some way to repaying all of the good that they have done for this city.”

The beer will be launched at The Marble Arch on Friday 11th May from 4pm with beer tastings with the brewers, live music and great food throughout the night. It’s free of charge and everyone’s welcome.
