Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has revealed the real reason behind her decision to leave the soap after 13 years.
It was revealed last week that the Michelle Connor actress was to “take a break” from the soap later this year.
Now, speaking in her OK! Magazine column, Kym has revealed more behind her decision.
She has also denied speculation that she could be eyeing a move into reality TV.
She writes: “I’ve loved every minute of working there and I’ve made some great friends at work but now feels like the right time for me to take a break and spread my wings.
“There were reports that I was going to appear in the next series of Strictly or I’m A Celeb… As wonderful as those shows are, I’m not leaving Corrie after thirteen years to do reality TV.
“Another big factor in my decision to take a break from Corrie is the impending arrival of my grandson. I’m looking forward to having more time to spend with him and [her daughter] Emilie after he’s born this summer”.
Kym is to become a grandma for the first time, after revealing the lovely news last year that her daughter Emilie is expecting her first child.
Corrie bosses confirmed her departure last week, with executive producer John Whiston hailing the “fantastic job” she has done over the past 13 years as Michelle, with a string of emotional and harrowing storylines.
Her character is about to reveal a baby bombshell to her partner Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) on the soap.
He said: “Kym has done a fantastic job on the show as Michelle Connor, bringing incredible heart and humanity to some hugely important stories.
“We will be really sad to lose her when she goes but totally understand that, after dedicating herself to the show for so long and so brilliantly, she now fancies trying something else for a while.
“We, and the audience, thank her and wish her well.”
Kym went on to confirm in her OK! column that she hopes to emulate the success of other actresses who have left the show and gone on to great things.
She said: “Other actresses from the show have gone on to do other incredible acting work, so who knows! It’s scary but I’m also really excited about what the future holds.”
