House of Hops is the latest beverage business cleverly adapting to the lockdown guidelines by filling their own crowlers with fresh beer.

This Swinton bottle shop and tap room is home to 10 keg lines of adventurous ales from local breweries like Pomona Island, Marble Brewers, Runaway Brewery, Left Handed Giant Brewing, Track Brewing, and Polly’s Brew Co and beyond.

Following the success of the online shop, it launched to sell its craft beers and deliver them to its customers’ doors, House of Hops decided to invest in a canning machine to fill its own crowlers to deliver to your door.

Beers on tap are poured into sealed 440ml cans known as crowlers in about 5 seconds using a Cannular canning machine and delivered on the same day.

The cans make for an exceptional fresh beer experience by keeping out taste-destroying light and oxygen. A water-based polymer interior coating means there’s no metal tang to tarnish the unique taste of the brew.

It’s much fresher than supermarket cans and the next best thing to buying a pint from a pump.

The idea came as co-owners Claire Fisher and Scott Daniels celebrated two years since opening.

“We’ve been looking back on all the happy memories over the past two years and how far we’ve come. It’s been an incredible journey so far and we’ve met some amazing people who we can now call our friends. We’re proud to have such loyal supporters and it’s made us confident enough to set up the online shop.

“The canning machine is something we’ve thought about for six months to provide proper draft beer to take away. The kegs last longer and the beer stays fresher than other vessels we’ve used. The lockdown was just the catalyst to invest in the canning machine sooner than anticipated.

“Thanks to all our customers for supporting us at this weird time. We don’t know what we’d be doing if we didn’t have the demand from such loyal fans.”

Claire and Scott promise they are taking all Covid-19 precautions including sanitising all products before delivery and gloves being worn during the delivery process. All payments are made through the online store before delivery. No cash will be changing hands and all products on your doorstep adhere to the government’s social distancing rules.

Orders are delivered on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Same day delivery if you order before 2pm. All orders placed after 2pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be delivered on the Thursday.

House of Hops has llimited free deliveries to the following postcodes: M5, M6, M25, M27, M28, M30, M50. Minimum order is £10 to ensure a decent service. If you are unsure whether you are in delivery range, please email them at [email protected] and they’ll reply quicker than you can say “humulus lupulus”.

To ensure the beer tastes fresh, House of Hops recommends that their crowler kegs are kept cold and should be drunk within 3-5 days of delivery date. We don’t think that will be an issue once you try it.
