An unsuspecting diner was in for a huge treat last night when an accidental mix up led to them being served a £4,500 bottle of wine.

City centre steak and seafood restaurant Hawksmoor, one of the top steak venues in Manchester, took to Twitter this morning to share the shocking news – and TBH we can’t quite believe it!

The restaurant said:

“To the customer who accidentally got given a bottle of Chateau le Pin Pomerol 2001, which is £4500 on our menu, last night – hope you enjoyed your evening!

“To the member of staff who accidentally gave it away, chin up! One-off mistakes happen and we love you anyway.”

Following up with a photo of the two bottles of wine to show just how much of an easy mistake it was to make.

Making light of the situation, Hawksmoor has been praised for its positive response to the news – showing support for the server who made the accidental mix up.

Twitter users couldn’t contain themselves after reading the post and were quick to share a host of hilarious responses to the tweet.

In true Manc style, one twitter user joked about adding ice cubes to the wine.

I don’t know about 4,500 quid, but it was nice when we added the lemonade and ice cubes…”

A second person mocked the diner who received the cheap bottle of wine in the mix up.

“And to the customer we accidentally served a bottle of Blossom Hill to For £4,500, err….”

Another asked the restaurant to share the name of the employee to ‘help’ with future mistakes.

I think it makes sense at this point for Hawksmoor to confirm the name and shift pattern of this employee so we can all go and ensure that we help correct any further errors of this nature.”

But it wasn’t all jokes, as a host of big-hearted people praised the restaurant for simply telling the server to keep their “chin up”.

“As someone who works in hospitality, bless you for being understanding and not flying off the handle at the poor lad/lass.”

“You have just made me want to go to your restaurant! I will start saving for the wine thou.”

“Employer goals right there!!!”

I think we’ve just decided where we’re going for lunch today!
