From the track to the pool, and from BMX to diving, this incredible city and region continues to produce exceptional Olympians who are making their mark in France.
Here’s a look at how some of Greater Manchester’s finest have fared so far in Paris, celebrating their victories, their near misses, and their unyielding spirit.

Keely Hodgkinson – Athletics
Hometown: Wigan
Result: Gold Medal
British record holder and pride of Wigan, Keely Hodgkinson, clinched an incredible gold medal in the 800m at the Paris Olympics.
At just 22, Hodgkinson boasts a remarkable career, including silver medals in the 800m at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, 2022 World Championships, and 2023 World Championships in Budapest.
A four-time European champion and holder of multiple British records in middle-distance events, her recent gold medal in Paris solidifies her status as one of Greater Manchester’s and Britain’s most accomplished athletes.

James Guy – Swimming
Hometown: Bury
Result: Gold Medal
James Guy, from Bury, successfully defended his title in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay at the Paris Olympics.
This victory adds to his impressive tally of two gold and three silver medals.
Guy’s strong performance, along with teammates Matt Richards, Tom Dean, and Duncan Scott, secured a historic win for British swimming, making it the first British relay team to retain an Olympic title across swimming and athletics.
Georgia Taylor-Brown – Triathlon
Hometown: Droylsden
Result: Bronze Medal
Triathlon runs in the blood of Droylsden’s Georgia Taylor-Brown, whose parents were also competitors.
She competed at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she won individual silver and helped Team GB secure gold in the mixed relay, Taylor-Brown was a pivotal member of the bronze-winning mixed triathlon team at the Paris Olympics this year.
Competing alongside Alex Yee, Samuel Dickinson, and Beth Potter, the team battled fiercely for the top spots.
Though they initially appeared to secure silver, a final review placed the USA in second and Britain in third.
Georgia’s impressive performance continues to highlight her as one of Greater Manchester’s top triathletes.
Charlotte Worthington – Cycling BMX Freestyle
Hometown: Manchester
Result: 11th Place
Charlotte Worthington made history as the first woman to land a 360-degree backflip in BMX freestyle at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, earning a gold medal.
Returning to the Olympic stage after a break, Worthington faced intense competition in Paris but did not qualify for the final, finishing in 11th place with scores of 79.20 and 78.82.
Despite this, her previous success and her status as a pioneering athlete in BMX freestyle remain huge achievements.
Patrick Brown – Boxing
Hometown: Sale
Result: Round of 16
Patrick Brown, a talented boxer from Sale who joined Moss Side Fire Station Boxing Club in 2022, faced a tough bout in the round of 16 of the men’s heavyweight competition.
Brown was defeated by Brazilian Keno Machado after a challenging match.
Despite his strong effort and significant punches in the final round, it wasn’t enough to advance further.
This was Brown’s debut at the Olympic Games.
Anthony Harding – Diving
Hometown: Ashton-under-Lyne
Result: Bronze Medal
Anthony Harding, hailing from Ashton-under-Lyne, earned a bronze medal in the men’s 3m springboard synchronised event at the Paris Olympics, alongside Jack Laugher.
This accomplishment was part of Britain’s most successful Olympic diving campaign to date.

Aimee Pratt – Steeplechase
Stockport – 11th place
Hometown: Stockport

She finished 11th with a time of 9:27.26 in a highly competitive field.
Although she did not advance to the final, Pratt’s positive outlook and determination reflect her strong presence in the sport.
Hannah Kelly – Athletics
Hometown: Bury
Upcoming Event: August 9th
Bolton United Harriers’ Hannah Kelly has had a breakthrough year, earning a spot on the GB 4x400m relay team.
The 23-year-old sprinter achieved a personal best of 51.96 in the 400m this year and contributed to Great Britain’s bronze medal in the women’s 4x400m relay at the World Indoor Championships.
Kelly will make her Olympic debut on August 9th in Paris.
