During lockdown, Grape to Grain has flourished with weekly Live Tastings paired with food.
Initially starting with cheese, the Prestwich company have found creative freedom expanding away from traditional pairing like cheese and charcuterie by exploring wine paired with crisps, chocolate and collaborating with local restaurants.
Now, following a successful wine-paired Live Tasting with Manchester’s Nell’s Pizza, Grape to Grain are teaming up with acclaimed Neapolitan pizzeria, Rudy’s Pizza for a special online event on 29th April.
Born out of passion for pizza, Rudy’s follows the authentic Neapolitan tradition of pizza making, serving classic recipes such as Marinara, Margherita and Calabrese – all originating from Naples, the birthplace of pizza.
The Rudy’s ‘bake at home’ pizzas follow the demand for people to enjoy the very best Neapolitan pizza from the comfort of their own homes.
Hand-made by Rudy’s expert pizzaiolos using the same fresh ingredients used in the pizzerias, the ‘bake at home’ range is available for national UK delivery.
Believing Neapolitan pizza to be the best in the world, Rudy’s dough is made fresh daily using Caputo ‘00’ flour which has been left to ferment for at least 24 hours, alongside the best quality ingredients imported twice a week from Naples, including San Marzano tomatoes grown on fields next to Mount Vesuvius, and Fior di Latte mozzarella.
Each wine enthusiast will receive three wines from Southern Italy, specially paired for a variety of Rudy’s ‘bake at home’ pizzas, including vegetarian and vegan options.
Local self-proclaimed sausage connoisseurs Grandad’s Sausages will supply an Italian-inspired fennel sausage and scamorza cheese pizza for the wine tasting.
For vegetarians, there’s the traditional portobello with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh veggie fior di latte, Portobello mushrooms, basil, oregano, sea salt, and garlic oil.
And for vegans, the vegan calabrese, with San Marzano tomatoes, preserved black bean ‘Nduja, celeriac ‘ricotta’, fresh basil.
For the wines, first up is a light and soft white wine from Puglia, the renowned heel of Italy. Produttori di Manduria’s Zin Fiano is dry, sweet and perfumed.
Next, on the other side of the spectrum, is Tenute Rubino’s Oltreme Susumaniello, a balanced ruby red that showcases the versatility of Puglia’s viticulture.
Finally, over the water into Italy’s southern depths, Sicily, is an organic wine made of 100% Nero d’Avola, Sicily’s indigenous grape.
Peppery and powerful, Fabrizio Vella’s Rosso Organico doesn’t pull its punches.
Three options are available: a ‘Taster’ of three 100ml wine servings with one pizza (£27.50), ‘Carafes’ of three 500ml wines servings with two pizzas (£82.50), and a ‘Full Bottle’ of three 750ml wines with two pizzas (£95), depending on budget, guests or decadence.
The #PizzaWine tasting will take place on on 29th April, and the event will be streamed on Facebook Live and Zoom from 8pm. Prices include pizza and wine, with delivery limited to Greater Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool postcodes. Delivery is free on orders of over £100. Bookings close on Sunday 25th April, with deliveries made on Wednesday 28th April. Sign up and find out more about their wine tastings here.
