Aldi set up a life-size gingerbread house in Piccadilly today to celebrate the fact they’ve has sold enough gingerbread houses to measure the length of Old Trafford nearly 100 times.

“…a replica of Aldi’s bestselling
gingerbread house…”

And at 14cm high, stacked up that makes 6,370 metres, which is the equivalent of 20 London Shard’s – the tallest building in the UK – 425 double-decker buses, 66 Big Ben’s, 40 Blackpool Tower’s or 1,158 Giraffes!

Busy Christmas shoppers in Manchester couldn’t believe their mince pies (eyes!) when they spotted a giant gingerbread house appear in the middle of the city centre.

The novelty house was erected by a team of Aldi ‘elves’ to celebrate sales of traditional festive treats.

Standing over 9 ft. tall, 10ft wide and 16 ft. deep, the life-size gingerbread creation is a replica of Aldi’s bestselling gingerbread house which has seen impressive sales this year.

In fact, at 22cm wide, the supermarket has sold enough gingerbread houses to run the length of Old Trafford football ground 94 times!

Aldi decided to build the giant retro style gingerbread house to mark their festive food sales and to bring some surprise cheer to the people of Manchester on one of the busiest shopping days in the lead up to Christmas.

Joint Managing Director for Corporate Buying at Aldi, Tony Baines, said: “We are delighted to see such solid sales of our very traditional festive treats. It shows that while shoppers’ tastes can vary, there is still a strong appetite for our classic seasonal sellers.

“We hope our giant replica of the gingerbread house brought some festive fun in the midst of one of the busiest shopping days in the lead up to Christmas and that our Aldi elves inspired shoppers to discover and enjoy all that Aldi has to offer.”

Aldi is offering anyone who took pictures of the giant gingerbread house the opportunity to ‘Tweet to Win’, where they can enter their photo for a chance to win one of 50 gingerbread house kits worth £4.89 each. To enter, use the #AldiFestiveFeast hashtag with your pictures.
