Gemma Gethin and Dave on Hits Radio

Gemma Atkinson has announced she is leaving Hits Radio breakfast show.

The Emmerdale actress and Strictly Come Dancing star shared the news to her 1 million instagram followers.

Gemma, who is exiting the show on maternity leave, is preparing to become a mum for the first time with her Strictly dance partner turned boyfriend Gorka Marquez.

The news comes less than one year since the actress and presenter joined the former Key 103 station, before transforming into Hits Radio and becoming Manchester’s first ever nationally broadcast show.

But fans of Gemma won’t have to wait too long before she’s back on air, as she confirms plans to returning on a brand new drivetime show with Wes Butters.

“It’s almost time for me to finish work for my maternity leave and take on my new role as being a mum!” says Gemma.

“I’ll be hanging up my headphones on Friday 7th June, but not for too long as I’ll be returning to @hitsradiouk on a brand new drivetime show with the wonderful @wesbutters.

“I figured being woken up by a baby throughout the night will leave me in no fit state to wake you guys up at breakfast  So instead, I’ll be getting you all home from work weekdays with Wes 4pm – 7pm.

“Very much looking forward to our new show with lots of fun stuff to chat to you all about! In the meantime, it’s mum time. (Wish me luck on nappy duty and sleepless nights).”

Gemma’s breakfast show co-hosts Gethin Jones and Dave Vitty have also both announced that they will also be stepping down from their roles at the station in order to pursue new projects.

Sharing a Love Island meme that suggests the presenter is leaving the station to find love on the hit ITV2 show, Gethin confirmed in an instagram post that he was leaving the show

“To confirm, this is not the reason I’m leaving @hitsradiouk!” says Gethin.

“It’s been a heck of 12 months.. Your involvement makes ever[y] day unique, thank you for listening. I leave June 7, my decision, all good… (I’m also the only person not running for PM).”

The breakfast show trio will host their final show on Friday 7th June, with Wes, Sheree and Dave then covering ahead of the new Breakfast show launching this summer, details of which are yet to be announced.

Also leaving Hits Radio is afternoon presenter Debbie Mac, who is stepping down from her afternoon show on 21st June, but will continue to work on other projects with Hits Radio Network, Bauer Radio.
