Gary Neville has provided us with some words of wisdom shared with him while he was at the peak of his powers at Manchester United by the team psychologist.
He says we should learn to love life in the Manchester Rain, stay positive and embrace the challenges life throws at us.
He added that even though life can be difficult, it’s always a good idea to keep the positive ideas and messages loud and clear.
“I’ve come out for an early walk and it’s raining it’s interesting when it rains
“It reminds me of a story that a psychologist had been at United for a year or two.
“I always remember him telling a story about no excuses and no shortcuts.
“He said that he once had a team he was working with and they used to whinge about everything.
“Oh it’s raining, oh the pitch is bad, oh the ball’s too hard, the balls too soft.
“To be a top team you’ve got to have a mentality that when it rains, you have to tell yourself you love it when it rains.
“And every time it rained and I went out to play, it used to remind me of that.
“I love it when it rains, I love it when it’s windy, I love it when it’s muddy.
“Or when the pitch is bobbly. It’s an interesting mindset.
“I suppose it’s similar to something like the glass is half full, over the glass is half empty. Or something like that.
“But I think it’s really important in life to have that mentality if you can.
“I know it’s sometimes difficult.
“But even if conditions aren’t perfect you keep going and keep telling yourself positive messages.
“It was also the psychologist that first introduced me to the positive parrot on one shoulder and the negative parrot on the other shoulder.
“Make sure the positive one’s voice is much louder.
“Maybe something a little bit thoughtful on a bank holiday Coronation weekend!”
Words of wisdom indeed from the legend.
