The drive-in theatre is a classic movie experience. An import from America, they’ve been around for more than a hundred years – first patented in the 1930s by a chap whose mother was too large to fit into the small seats at their local cinema.

Due to the current restrictions around Covid, they are having a resurgence in popularity – but this time not because the seats are too small, but rather too close together.

This one from Park N Party has popped up at Trafford’s Eventcity, a huge space just 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre.

It’s showing a mix of family favourites, blockbusters and cult classics throughout the month, so there’s something on offer for everyone whatever their film taste.

There are films showing every day throughout September. This weekend, screenings will include Happy Gilmore, The Conjuring, La La Land and The Greatest Showman.

Other must-see films on the line-up this month include Pretty Woman, Thelma and Louise, the original 1971 Willy Wonka movie, Fight Club and Dirty Dancing.

A number of screens will be placed throughout the open-air venue to make sure that everyone has a clear view, whilst sound will be streamed through your car’s radio, so you won’t miss a second of dialogue.

You’re more than welcome to bring your own snacks but there will be food and drink outlets on-site for those who want them.

Tickets for the drive-in are sold per car (win) and, at just £25 a showing, that works out pretty cheap in our books.

Toilets are available on-site, please be aware that the drive-in cinema is adhering to social distancing guidelines and other suggested actions to keep movie fans safe.
