We all love Don Giovanni for its authentic Italian cuisine, from creamy spaghetti carbonara to eye-catching seafood platters.
But now, Manchester’s oldest independent Italian restaurant has levelled up its Sunday offering with a brand new roast menu – with an Italian twist, of course.
Meat eaters can pick from slow-cooked lamb shoulder, chicken supreme, or perfectly pink slices of topside of beef with crisp golden roast potatoes and all the trimmings, whilst for veggies and vegans there is a rather sizeable hunk of mushroom wellington on the cards.
Adaptable for veggies or vegans, the huge mushroom wellington is comprised of garlicky, herb-infused mushrooms wrapped in thick and fluffy vegan shortcrust pastry.
Just like the meat options, this comes served with caramelised parsnips and imperator carrots, tenderstem broccoli, and a cauliflower gratin (made with soy milk and vegan mozzarella for those who don’t take dairy) that’s topped with toasted cheesy breadcrumbs.
You’ll also find seriously huge Yorkshire puddings heaped in the middle of the table so you can pick your own, along with two words which are music to our ears: unlimited gravy.
Yes, that’s right. There’s a jug of rich glossy gravy on your table so you can help yourself to as much as you like. And, if you do need more, all you need to do is ask your server for a refill.
Arguably the best meal of the week, the new roast menu offers a choice of one or two courses – and if you opt for a pudding (why wouldn’t you? It’s the weekend after all) it’ll only cost you another £3.
Puddings on offer include Don Giovanni’s must-try tiramisu, made freshly in house by their Italian dessert chefs. Think homemade savoiardi biscuits, dipped in espresso then layered with a creamy mascarpone mousse and dusting of chocolate.
Or if you fancy something a bit more English traditional, opt for a rich and sweet sticky toffee pudding sponge mixed with dates and raisins.
Topped with chopped sugar coated walnuts and drizzled in a warm toffee sauce, it’s the most indulgent way to end your Sunday family feast – and it’s pretty as a picture, too.
For vegan sweet tooths, Don Giovanni make their own vegan panna cottas that come topped with a tart berry compote.
And, last but not least, for the chocoholics there’s also an outrageously indulgent chocolate fudge cake served with vanilla ice cream.
When it comes to wine, as well as plenty of choice by the bottle and glass, Don Giovanni also offers wines using the Coravin preservation system, which allows premium wines to be served by the glass without pulling the cork.
It basically means you can try a glass of something really special, without the eye-watering price tag if you’d had to order it by the bottle.
So with an indulgent roast lunch and a top quality wine, you really can treat yourself.
Served every Sunday from 12pm, there’s no better way to spend your Sunday.
