St Michael’s has today revealed an exclusive first-look at how its new rooftop terrace is going to look like when the Japanese-Peruvian dining experience, Chotto Matte, opens in early 2025.

Relentless Developments has published two visualisations of the new space.

One showcases the terrace seating surrounding an atmospheric fire pit, overlooking the Manchester cityscape, and the other shows an indoor sushi area with intimate table seating.

An incredible rooftop atmosphere

Occupying the entire 20,000 sq ft rooftop at No. 1 St Michael’s, Chotto Matte is set to add something different to the Manchester food scene, in what Relentless have said “combines urban flair with fine dining and inventive Nikkei cuisine to create a highly-sensory experience.”

The restaurant will feature Chotto Matte’s ‘signature design’ elements such as an open sushi counter, robata grill, table-side torched sushi, lava stone features, and graffiti-inspired artwork.

What will the interior look like?

The restaurant will boast an interior design scheme by international architect, designer and company director of Superfutures, Andy Martin, who has collaborated with Chotto Matte since its inception.

Drawing inspiration from the concept of a ‘city prism’, the design of Chotto Matte Manchester evokes a dynamic interplay of angles and colour, mirroring the vibrant urban landscape and taking reference from the powerful sub-culture of music and dance within Manchester.

What else will be in the St Michael’s development?

St Michael’s is rapidly gaining a reputation for playing host to some of the world’s most exciting brands, with W Hotel and W Residences taking over the development’s  41-storey tower.

The £400m landmark development launched in July 2023, with construction rapidly gaining pace to transform the area bordering Jackson’s Row and Bootle Street, into a new world-class destination for work, stay and play.

Kurt Zdesar, Co-Founder & Owner

Kurt Zdesar, Co-Founder & Owner, says: “We are delighted to be working with Gary Neville and his incredible team to launch Chotto Matte in the much anticipated St Michael’s development, immersing the brand in the dynamic and burgeoning food scene of Manchester.

“The CGIs provide a real insight into the unique rooftop location of the restaurant.

“It’s fantastic to mark the first UK launch of Chotto Matte outside of London with this site and gives us a new opportunity to showcase our concept to a wider audience.”
