Renowned for its modern twist on the classic British chophouse, Blacklock is set to open its first restaurant outside London, right in the heart of Manchester’s Peter Street.
The grand opening, scheduled for September 27th, will see Blacklock take up residence in a stunning Grade II-listed building steeped in Mancunian history.
Known for their charcoal-grilled chops and steaks, Blacklock promises a dining experience that blends luxurious surroundings with the warm, unpretentious vibe that has made their London locations a hit.
With a beautiful selection of cocktails, wines on tap, and local beers from Manchester’s Sureshot brewery, this much-anticipated opening is set to be another great addition to Manchester’s food and drink scene.
Loved for their modern take on the Great British chophouse, guests can expect a range of chops and steaks cooked over charcoal and all washed down with cocktails that follow a pip-to-peel philosophy and wines on tap.
They also have an excellent range of beers on offer, provided by local brewery Sureshot if wine isn’t your thing. And also a great selection of Old Fashioneds straight from the trolly.
Blacklock comes to Manchester
Famously their signature pudding, white chocolate cheesecake, is served tableside and straight from the dish, with a loving ‘say when’ approach, just like nan used to serve.
And we can attest, this is an amazing way to round off a brilliant meal.
Gordon Ker, Founder of Blacklock
Founded by ex-lawyer Gordon Ker whose love of hospitality led him to open the first Blacklock in a basement in Soho in 2015, he commented “It’s long been a dream of mine and the team to open Blacklock in Manchester given its vibrant and bustling culture and brilliant food scene.
“It’s so important for us to be in buildings with character and history, and this part of Manchester has that in spades.”
And we have to agree, the setting is absolutely gorgeous, Central in location but tucked away downstairs with a special ambiance to enjoy.
Where will Blacklock be based?
The restaurant will be housed in a Grade ll listed building, formerly home to a textile merchant and rich with Mancunian history, making it a fitting choice for Blacklock’s much anticipated Northern opening.
“I absolutely love the architecture in Manchester; the tiled basements, lightwells and stone frontages feel very us,” says Ker of their search.
“When a landlord asked what we thought of a basement hiding in plain sight beneath the bustle of Peter Street, I knew we’d found our perfect Manchester home.”
What’s on the menu at Blocklock?
Quality produce and exceptional value are at the forefront of Blacklock’s mission.
Their sustainably sourced meat comes from award-winning Cornish family farmers and butchers Philip and Ian Warren.
This almost decade long relationship with sustainable, regenerative farming and no waste approach to every facet of the business helped earn them B Corp certification in 2023.
At Blacklock, the menu is a tribute to all things meat, but with some delightful surprises in store for non-carnivores, too.
Start your journey with the Pre Chop Bites, where small plates like Blacklock Potted Meats & Kimchi and the nostalgic combo of Cheese & Pickle offer bold flavours in bite-sized portions—perfect to whet the appetite.
The Starters range from comforting classics like Mushrooms on Toast to the more adventurous Pig’s Head on Toast, ensuring there’s something to suit every mood.
For a taste of indulgence, the Crayfish Cocktail channels seafood sophistication.
Lunch gets a special nod here with hearty offerings such as the indulgent Steak Sarnie and the irresistible Blacklock Burger, a double cheeseburger with vermouth-laced caramelised onions that elevate it beyond the norm.
For chop lovers, the Skinny Chops offer smaller but perfectly grilled cuts of Lamb, Pork, and Beef, while those looking for grandeur can share the impressive Big Chops, including beefy favourites like the Prime Rib and Porterhouse.
The steaks are dry-aged up to 55 days for maximum flavour, and range from the tender Denver to the decadent Blacklock Fillet.
Even non-meat eaters can indulge in the Barbecued Cauliflower Chop, grilled to smoky perfection.
Don’t miss the sides—especially the famed Beef Dripping Chips or the rich and tender 10-Hour Ash Roasted Sweet Potato. They are excellent.
Top off your meal with sauces like Chilli Hollandaise or the savoury Blacklock Gravy for the ultimate finishing touch.
Collaborating with local suppliers
Blacklock are excited to collaborate with new Northern suppliers to champion the best local produce, which will play starring roles in brand new dishes to be introduced to the Manchester menu.
They will, of course, bring their award-winning Sunday Roast.
Expect whole joints roasted over open coals served with Yorkshire puddings, duck fat roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables and an unsparing amount of Blacklock gravy.
Beyond restaurants, Blacklock strives to be a fantastic employer and a great place to work. Recognised as one of the Top 100 Best Companies to work for in the UK, the restaurant will be led by General Manager Lucy Ames-Greenall.
Originally from Manchester, Ames-Greenall has managed Blacklock Shoreditch for the last three years and is now fulfilling her personal ambition to come home to open Blacklock in Manchester.
