Almost Famous is a Manchester institution when it comes to burgers. And not just any burgers. We’re talking filthily fun fistfuls of meat piled high with inspired toppings from a menu that reads like a feverish dream.

Another Manchester institution is Mughli. The family-run Curry Mile charcoal pit is one of our favourite spots for Indian soul food, with such good lamb chops and tandoori chicken that once you’ve tried them you just start immediately wondering when you’ll be able to have them again.

Now, the two have collaborated with a one-off special that has set social media alight.

They’re describing the creation as a genuine food fusion rather than an Indian-themed burger. Welcome, Slumdog Billionaire.

The special burger consists of a double juicy cheeseburger topped with wonderdusted tater tots and Mughli spiced tandoori chicken – charred, spicy, tangy – drenched with signature Mughli butter chicken sauce and crispy bhaji fried onions.

Douse the whole lot with lashings of jalapeño mayo and Jai Ho sauce (smoked ketchup with Mughli chilli sauce), and, they promise, “you’re pretty much in an Americana Bollywood fantasyland via Manchester”.

There will also be free poppadoms with dips including bacon bacon mayo and smoked chilli onions.

“I’ve always loved Mughli, like I’m pretty obsessed with it,” says Almost Famous founder Beau Myers.

“It’s the sort of place you go and totally indulge all your cravings then it’s so frickin good you wake up craving it again and have to go back! The signature dishes are the stuff you have to get across town / the country / the world for.

“I got fam in the States and it’s the first thing they want when they visit – the butter chicken, the chops, the tandoori chicky, the bhaji, the sauces, the dips, the chargrill – they just do it best.”

Having the chance to do a collaboration with Mughli is a “true food fantasy,” says Beau.

“I know our customers will feel the same. All the best bits of Mughli with Famous style and ‘tude – all in a messy dripping with goodness burger dream…

“Literally the best thing ever, what’s not to love? What’s not to get excited over?

“I’m there with it dripping down my arms.”

The Slumdog Billionaire burger will be available for two weeks exclusively at Almost Famous (NQ site only), from 5pm on Tuesday 30th July.
