American brunch favourites Alabama’s have installed themselves temporarily at Northern Monk Refectory after being ‘served notice’ on their Newton Street site.

Known for their top-draw American eats, Alabama’s has been a Newton Street fixture since opening in March 2016.

One of the most popular brunch spots in town, table waits can often run to the two-hour mark on weekends.

The indulgent pancake and waffle stacks are a breakfast must, with toppings including fried chicken, chocolate and peanut butter, and bacon and maple syrup.

Egg muffins, toasties and po-boys, meanwhile, carry diners comfortably from brunch into lunchtime territory and can be washed down with signature house cocktails.

The first kitchen residents of 2020, they take over at Northern Monk Refectory from Pie Eyed – serving up their signature breakfast and brunch dishes from 9am-8pm every day.

And for the very first time, they will also be dipping their toe into evening service with an all-new dinner menu.

Pancakes will be available until late, alongside a newly-launched evening menu featuring dishes like gumbo, fried chicken and vegan burgers.

Northern Monk announced the new collaboration on Instagram in a statement released on Friday.

“Ever since we opened in the Northern Quarter in September 2018, we’ve been made to feel at home by the great bars and restaurants that surround the site.

“We look to partner with our neighbours wherever we can, and we’re excited to announce Northern Quarter trailblazers, @alabamas_mcr, as our first kitchen residents of the new decade.

The popular brunch cafe has been allegedly forced out of its Newton Street home in order to make way for new offices, despite initially being led to believe the work not affect them.

They will take over the Tariff street basement kitchen on a temporary basis whilst bosses search for a new permanent home.

Find Alabama’s at Northern Monk Refectory on Tariff Street Mon-Fri 9am-3pm and 5pm-8pm, Sat 9am-8pm and Sun 9am-5pm.
