Surgical director at KSL Clinic in Manchester, Dr Matee is one of the leading hair transplant surgeons in the UK.

His clients include the rich and famous, from sports stars and singers to actors and even royal family members.

We caught up with him to find out more about his life and work.

“Many years ago, I was asked by a colleague in Harley Street London to assist in providing local anaesthesia during a ‘difficult’ hair transplant operation,” says Dr Matee, who has dual training in cosmetic medicine and surgery.

“I have always been fascinated by surgery and how it can be used to improve people’s lives, confidence and appearances.

“Ever since that first experience, my interest in hair transplant surgery has become a passion and I love every aspect of it.”

How common is the procedure? And is there any stigma attached to it?

“Not really, not anymore,” he explains. “Of course, not everyone wants to tell the world about it, but it is so common now. Both men and women have it done.

“It has really helped men and women suffering confidence issues to really improve how they feel about themselves.

“The more people that talk about it, the more people will get help as it really is life changing how people seem more confident after hair transplant surgery. We’ve had countless patients tell us the surgery has completely changed their lives.

“For people who don’t experience hair loss, they might not understand as much, but when it’s happening to you it can take a massive toll on your self-esteem and mental health.”

Unsurprisingly, many of Dr Matee’s patients are people frequently in the public eye, whether TV stars or other famous faces.

“We go above and beyond for all of our patients, but with celebrity patients there’s always that added pressure of them being under constant limelight and in the public eye.

“Often, they have particular requests for hairline designs to suit their line of work.

“This can vary from TV personalities, actors, pop stars, sports stars, social media influencers and even royal family members.”

Who’s the most famous client he’s had?

“The most famous ones I’m not allowed to say! We’ve treated so many over the years it’s difficult to say who is the most famous.

“Some of our recent celebrity clients have included Love Island winner Jack Fincham, model and TV personality Katie Price and former professional footballer Paul Robinson to name but a few.”

What does the procedure involve – and how long does it take?

“In essence, a hair transplant involves removing hair follicles from the back of the head, known as the donor area, to the front hairline or the top mid-scalp or crown part of the head,” he explains.

“It is done under local anaesthetic and is a day procedure. It’s classed as minor surgery, which means patients come in on the morning of the surgery and are back at home by the evening.

“The full recovery period is two weeks; however, patients are mobile from the minute they leave the surgery that same day.

And Dr Matee knows exactly what’s involved, as he has undergone the procedure himself.

“The corners of my hairline had receded and it had also thinned from the front. I am delighted with how it went and I am told I look even younger now!”

It’s not always starting from scratch, though. Sometimes, his work involves correcting previous surgeries that clients have undertaken elsewhere, and are unhappy with.

“Sometimes the corrections are needed because patients are no longer happy with the results of their surgery, other times it is because the surgery has been quite poor – which is more common when people choose to go abroad as a cheaper alternative,” says Dr Matee.

“Having performed many corrective surgeries, my team and I have become renowned specialists in performing corrective hair transplant surgery.”

Dr Matee has also pioneered his own minimally invasive technique.

“MinSim is something I have developed over the years that allows patients to undergo hair transplant surgery with minimum discomfort, easy recovery and optimum results,” he says.

“The MinSim technique, I feel, has revolutionised the patient experience and guarantees that the work we do as a team produces amazing results day in day out for every single one of our patients.”

And a few years ago, Dr Matee also launched Hair for Heroes, to offer a helping hand and some support to the heroes in our community who need it and deserve it the most.

“My team and I decided to offer our heroes free hair transplant surgery or treatments – it’s just our way of saying thank you to incredible individuals who have helped better British society or who might not have been dealt the best hand in life,” he says.

“Whether that’s people with skin deformities, acid attack victims, those who dedicate their time to supporting others such as charity workers, NHS staff, armed servicemen and women, police officers, social workers etc.

“It’s our way of thanking them for their courage, bravery or community support – and for literally being everyday heroes

“I’m so pleased that it has also inspired other people in similar positions to myself to offer the same in their local communities.

“The more of us who can recognise our local heroes, the better!”
