We love an alternative Christmas dinner here in Manchester. But have you ever wondered if the traditional festive dinner might be better if it was battered?
If so, wonder no more. Deep-fried turkey and Christmas pudding are no longer a figment of your foodie dreams, after a Didsbury chippy has launched the ultimate Christmas take on a chippy tea.
The Chippy on Burton Road, famed for its naughty-but-nice black pudding fritters, has now turned its attention to a deep-fried Christmas dinner complete with battered Brussels sprouts and crispy coated stuffing balls.
Featuring a Northern chippy spin on classic festive favourites, the limited edition Christmas specials menu also includes a giant ‘pig in a duvet’, a turkey and stuffing fritter, Brie and cranberry parcels, and deep-fried Christmas pudding with ice cream.
If that’s not enough, you could try the restaurant’s ‘blow out Christmas platter’, which will include a turkey and vegetarian Christmas dinner served with chips and gravy.
And if you dine in, you can try a mulled cider with it, too.
“A chippy tea is a great treat for every week of the year but we decided to put a festive twist on it this Christmas, to offer something different to Manchester’s diners,” explains Liz Bookbinder, co-owner of The Chippy on Burton Road.
“We had a lot of fun coming up with the recipes and testing them – we’re especially pleased with our epic ‘pig in a duvet’ innovation.
“We think it’s a really cheerful take on Christmas dinner and we hope customers enjoy indulging in our deep-fried Christmas Dinner classics.”
They’ll still offer a normal menu too, if you can’t face deep-fried sprouts.
“Of course we’ll still be offering up our regular fish, pies and meat-free options throughout December too for those who are sick of Christmas already!” says Liz.
The deep-fried Christmas dinner is available at The Chippy on Burton Road to dine in, take out and on Deliveroo, until Sunday 5th January 2020.
