Ex-Man City footballer fired by Lord Sugar – after Apprentice ice cream fail

A Mancunian who makes ice cream for a living was fired from last night’s episode of The Apprentice – for losing a task which involved making iced lollies.

You know the formula. 16 candidates compete for the job of becoming the business partner of billionaire businessman Lord Sugar.

They look like Love Island contestants in business clothes and have huge egos but they are all hopeless and make fools of themselves in every task they are faced with.

Two of them – the least hopeless – manage to make it to the final and fight it out for the prize – to become the belligerent tycoon’s business partner (it used to be his apprentice but the job changed a few years ago whilst the name of the programme stayed the same).

In last night’s episode, the second in the current series, the candidates are tasked with making iced lollies. It’s not the most difficult task and a bit of an anti-climax after last week’s episode in which they were all flown to South Africa and asked to sell tickets to tours of a nature reserve and a vineyard.

The task is tailor-made for 24 year-old Kenna Ngoma, founder and owner of Beaumonde Desserts, a company which specialises in alcohol-infused, vegan ice cream. He volunteers to be project manager of the boys team.

But it all goes horribly wrong for ex-Man City youth footballer Kenna. What should have been a piece of cake turned into a dog’s dinner when he decided to maximise his profit margin on what was supposed to be a luxury iced lolly.

His corporate client refuses to pay for the lollies she had ordered because they look cheap and nasty and look like a penis.

Unsurprisingly, the boys lost the task for the second week running (proving conclusively that women are better at business than men) and, as project manager of the losing team, Kenna is automatically one of three candidates in the firing line for Lord Sugar’s vicious tongue and feeble jokes.

He is up against Dean, a shoe-in for the next series of Love Island providing he’s hiding a six pack under his suit, and Ryan, who is four parts former Man City footballer Samir Nasri and one part Michael McIntyre.

Sadly, Lord Sugar decided to fire Kenna rather than Dean, who was equally, if not more, responsible for the boys’ defeat.

Which just leaves Iasha Masood flying the flag for Manchester for this series.

As for Kenna, we wish him well. We may not have seen the last of him. He has already told the Daily Mirror he wouldn’t mind going on Love Island.

And he’s made a statement about his experience on his social media accounts this morning, saying at least he got to live his dream of appearing on the show.

Kenna said of his firing:  “To say I was gutted would be an understatement.  But I’d love to thank everyone who supported me these past couple of weeks.  I truly believe that I didn’t deserve to be fired but understand that’s how life goes.

“Since young I always said to people I will get onto my favourite TV show and achieved that so no one can ever take that away from me!”

Before creating his alcohol-infused ice cream company in 2018, Kenna played semi-professionally for Manchester City before his football career was cut short by injury in 2013.  He does however continue to play the game and recently signed for indoor five-a-side team Manchester Futsal.
