Samba brings a bit of Brazilian sunshine to Manchester.

Manchester School of Samba was founded by Tony Watts in March 1995. It’s a noisy, fun- filled celebration of the joys of being alive using dance, percussion, costume and floats to perform in the various styles of Brazilian carnival.

They’ve played Notting Hill Carnival and Coburg Samba Festival, the biggest samba event in Europe, but perform mainly at local festivals in north west England.

Rehearsals are at Sacred Trinity Church, Chapel Street, Salford on Wednesdays at 7p.m. Drums are provided. If you’d like to get involved, just turn up, pay your entrance fee (£5/4.50) and join in. It’s open to people of all levels of ability over the age of 18 (children can come if they are accompanied by a responsible adult).
