The Tour de Manc Sportive is back on 6 May 2018 for the third year.
It’s not quite the Tour de France but it’s the toughest challenge on the Tour de Manc’s events programme.
It has two distance options. For cyclists wanting a very tough challenge, the Full Manc is the most demanding ride. 169.2km encompassing all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester, including some steep climbs which take in panoramic views of the whole of Manchester and some enjoyable downhill sections.
It’s designed to be a real test for experienced cyclists and is not for the faint-hearted.
For fit but less seasoned cyclists, or anyone determined to embrace a new challenge this year, the Half Manc covers 100km – still a challenge for most, whilst maintaining all Tour de Manc’s signature fun.
Tour de Manc Sportive 2018 also welcomes disabled and paracyclists in the Every Manc ride. For those riders not capable of riding on open roads, there is a closed road section where these riders can test themselves.
The Every Manc uses the same start and finish point as the Full Manc and Half Manc rides and the participants get the opportunity to enjoy this epic event.
The events promise to be a real Manc cycling festival bursting with fun, challenge and Manchurian spirit, with everything from bespoke ales by award-winning Brightside Brewery, to bespoke jerseys designed by the Manchester Fashion Institute.
“We have no employees and everyone here are volunteers – and that includes me,” says Tony Rubins, one of the organisers.
“This allows us to raise surpluses directly from the income we generate and we give every penny to our registered headline charities. Our three headline charities support the Greater Manchester homeless, haematology cancer patients at the Christie Hospital and a wide range of community projects.
“As well as the direct donations we make, our fantastic riders raise a huge amount for their own chosen charities through their personal sponsorships. Last year our riders helped 27 registered charities, raising many thousands of pounds for them.”
The Tour de Manc takes place on 6 May and starts at the David Lloyd Manchester North Club, Bowlee near Middleton, the event’s headline sponsor for 2018. Standard entry is £34.99.
