You’ll love this new play about the making of Jaws with a hilarious twist

If you love the film Jaws and want to know more about the making of the film itself and have a good laugh, then you are in for a treat next February.

The Olivier nominated, West End and Broadway hit play The Shark Is Broken is headed to The Lowry as part of the UK tour.

And it could not be timed more perfectly, as the hit Steven Spielberg film which had the tagline, “You’ll never go in the water again” is celebrating its 50^th Anniversary.

The play is co-written by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon, and it is inspired by Robert Shaw’s experience playing Quint in Jaws.

What happens when the cameras stop rolling?

Ian Shaw is Robert’s son, and the play takes a peek behind Hollywood’s first popcorn movie, which led to the term blockbuster and imagines what happened on board The Orca when the cameras stopped rolling during the filming of Steven Spielberg’s epic movie.

It also features the ‘characters’ of Rob Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss who played Chief Martin Brody and marine biologist Matt Hooper.

The Shark Is Broken was first staged at the Edinburgh Festival in 2019 and it later transferred to the West End in 2021 and a Broadway season followed in 2023.

The play is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Scott Landis, GFour Productions and Kenny Wax and it is set to rock the boat when it arrives at the Lowry in February.
